Diverse Routes from Singapore

Last night I followed the track of SQ26 from Singapore to Frankfurt as a close friend was on board, a very unusual route that went via Mumbai, Muscat, Riyadh and Luxor before turning North and a more or less direct track to Frankfurt.
In contrast British Airways BA12 to London took the traditional route over Delhi, Northern Afghanistan and a Great Circle via Turkey and Northern Europe, and finally Lufthansa LH779 took a route midway between SQ and BA that was straight as an arrow on Flightradar24.
Such diverse routes, what were they thinking?
All 3 aircraft were scheduled for departures between 11pm and midnight.

I think the BA route clipping northern Afghanistan is a recent change.
I am still wondering why BA are not overflying Israel and Jordan on eastern routes as most of the Europeans are doing.
DLH also seem to have resumed crossing Iran.

The Lancaster is en-route Coningsby from Duxford where I think it's been for some time enjoying some love and attention from the experts there.

Thanks for that, Roger4. I'm still a bit mystified by my observations, in terms of both the noise and and the (unenhanced!) visuals being unlike my previous encounters with Northolt's finest. Can you recall what time you managed to get your ID on the reg.?

Sorry Seloco, I didn't log the actual time, but it was late afternoon on the 6th.

I too didn't recognise the sound, and as it wasn't showing on ADSB nor on my Mode S/ADSB receiver at home, I went outside to try and eye-ball it. I was unsuccessful on its first orbit, but positively identified on the second.

Kodiak 100 D-FERD has just droned westbound above the clag over Croydon at 10000'. Not sure if I have ever seen one. There was a Caravan-a-like at Chino one visit but it may have been an Airvan...

Both seem to have been operating from Guam for the last six months or so, and Iwakuni prior to that.

ATAC have around a dozen Hunters on their books, including a couple of two-seaters - I would imagine they all get around quite a bit.

Possibly doesn't count because I it saw in the sky (twice, a couple of hours and about 50 km apart) before checking Plane Finder, but Spitfire G-IDLA was touring South Devon today (Battle of Britain day), looking and of course sounding splendid.

Visited Plymouth, flew the whole south coast at least as far as Dorset, and made a few swings around Exmouth, Exeter, and eastern Dartmoor.

12.18pm Just seen the Welsh Air Ambulance over central Bracknell again ( Red / Green livery ) fairly common routing , 1100 feet West > East Reg.:
G-WOBR United Kingdom Type EC45 MBB BK117
Type Desc.:H2T Squawk: 002
Always feel for the individual inside , en-route from Cardif to a London Hospital , so serious ? They need a London Hospital.
Looked back at this before 1pm Thursday, they landed at (Battersea) London Heliport EGLW - so assume went to a Hospital without a helipad , by emergency land ambulance from Battersea

Early morning sky crisscrossed with vapour trails in numbers I haven't seen in quite a while!

Edit: quite coincidentally my Worthing-based pal has just sent me a pic remarking on the view across the Channel being festooned with trails.

How are movements at Heathrow comparing now with normal? Still seems quiet but I imagine they are well up on 15 months ago.

I think Heathrow daily movements are up to 750 plus depending on day of the week.
