This could have been an opportunity to change the god awful livery and maybe go for a retro livery or new one altogether
Maybe they are evaluating airfields where a -800 can't get in/out of

One wonders, given that they have over 300 737-800s in their fleet, what exactly there is that needs evaluating regarding the -700.
If they'd asked me, I'd have told them for free that it doesn't hold as many.

I doubt very much that they'd complicate their slick operational model by introducing the shorter model to revenue service.
But for the auxiliary role it was cheap to purchase or lease versus the -800. This particular airframe was stored at Shannon for nearly a year before being picked-up by Ryanair.
Also rumoured to be fitted with a couple of rows of business-type seats for the corporate shuttle role, might as well fly the boss around in a liveried aircraft instead of the pair of Lears.

May be FR are going to 'dip their toes' with a Transatlantic route. After all a 700 can fly further than an 800 and is cheaper to fly per mile.

ER ops
ryanair have no ETOPS experience so would not be able to start operations for sometime without that without suitable in a/c type nor operations/training
i doubt they could grandfather any etops rights being an EI shareholder
this 737-700 is not for this
astraeus in the UK did LGW-deer lake in Newfoundland some years ago with summer charters
i think they were non-stop inbound but possibly had a fuel stop on the outbound
