The first -700 series for Ryanair is ready in the company c/s. After a paintjob in the Netherland the a/c will return today to East Midlands.

Will only be used for crewtraining and the occasional AOG rescue flight as far as I'm aware.

One wonders, given that they have over 300 737-800s in their fleet, what exactly there is that needs evaluating regarding the -700.

If they'd asked me, I'd have told them for free that it doesn't hold as many. :O

This could have been an opportunity to change the god awful livery and maybe go for a retro livery or new one altogether :uhoh:

Maybe they are evaluating airfields where a -800 can't get in/out of :E

One story I've heard is that Boeing are supporting / sponsoring the aircraft in some way, so that RYR can evaluate the type. If true, I guess RYR can see a potential for the -700 somewhere.

Will a -700 get in/out of Guernsey

I doubt very much that they'd complicate their slick operational model by introducing the shorter model to revenue service.

But for the auxiliary role it was cheap to purchase or lease versus the -800. This particular airframe was stored at Shannon for nearly a year before being picked-up by Ryanair.

Also rumoured to be fitted with a couple of rows of business-type seats for the corporate shuttle role, might as well fly the boss around in a liveried aircraft instead of the pair of Lears.

May be FR are going to 'dip their toes' with a Transatlantic route. After all a 700 can fly further than an 800 and is cheaper to fly per mile.

Good luck flight-planning a non-ER 737-700 westbound across the Pond. :O

I'd like to see a standard 737-700 fly DUB-YYT with a payload, 120 ETOPS and standard IFR reserves. Can't be done without extra tanks.

rog747 2nd Jul 2015 18:35

ER ops

ryanair have no ETOPS experience so would not be able to start operations for sometime without that without suitable in a/c type nor operations/training

i doubt they could grandfather any etops rights being an EI shareholder

this 737-700 is not for this

astraeus in the UK did LGW-deer lake in Newfoundland some years ago with summer charters
i think they were non-stop inbound but possibly had a fuel stop on the outbound

I was thinking of Astraeus and their long haul 737 operations when I saw this thread and thought "maybe they are thinking along these lines', but I'd have to agree that it will be used for corporate transport/AOG/evaluation/whatever for those entrepreneurs with the harp on the tail.

If memory serves Astraeus did Bristol to Banjul non-stop with their 737-700s
