ANA B787 trouble, flight cancelled 7/29, Japan
Reported on the local Okayama NHK news today, 1:05 pm, 29 July, that the 9:55 flight from Okayama to Haneda was cancelled this morning after a message on the aircraft data network system indicated the malfunctioning of a hardware part. ANA technicians are still looking into it. See video and report, in Japanese. Check the original source using translation software if you do not trust me. (Be quick though, as NHK has a habit of not keeping old news stories for long. I have copied the copy as a precaution, before it gets 'lost'.)

岡山空港管理事務所によりますと岡山空港を午前９時５５分に出発して羽田空港に向かう全日空のボーイング７８７型機が機材のトラ ブルのため欠航になったということです。
全日空によりますと、飛行機の機体のコンピューターを制御している「機体データネットワークシステム」で一部の部品に不具合の可 能性を示すメッセージが出たということです。
全日空では詳細な点検をしているということです。

Granted. So why should it and why does it get reported then?
And why should such events get covered up elsewhere, such as Doha? Surely it is in the public interest right now after permission for flights to be resumed has been given. Notice there have been over half a million hits on PPrune's "FAA grounds 787s" thread. So there is healthy interest out there.
If the A350 or any other new generation large composite aircraft goes through similar teething problems I should imagine there will be equal interest. Better that we should be aware.

Yes, I know this is really boring and totally pointless, but a sense of responsibility drives me to give the honorable members some follow-up.
They eventually traced it to a faulty piece of computer hardware which they swapped out and the plane is apparently now fine.

Sorry to disagree, but this is what I find refreshing and innocent about Japanese news releases. They are usually not 'managed' by a damage limitation team as in the west and you can often find some internal nugget as to what is going on. It may not be a big deal in itself, certainly not in this case, but it has a ring of truth and helps to build an honest picture, which I value.
