Ok, two points.

What makes you think it is an emergency?

When traffic is not holding for LHR something is wrong.

Yawn.

Notwithstanding the squawk (which they may have been told to squawk by ATC) if the pseudo radar tracks are to be believed the flight wasn't a million miles from Shannon when it turned back. The crew have also opted not to go into the likes of Dublin or Cardiff and instead headed for LHR - so whatever the problem is it's presumably not that serious.

According to the link to Flightradar 24 it is squawking 5634...so like Wiggy says, they have passed a whole lot of "nearest suitable airports" to go to one where they have maintenance.
