I WANT TO BECOME A PILOT BUT...

Hi guys! I am Kristopher, am just new here in this forum, and I guess this place can help me "sort out" my future plans.

I am dreaming of becoming a pilot someday, but a lot of things keep on popping on my mind... Here are some:

1. I am an incoming junior, taking up BS Chemistry with Applied Computer Systems in Ateneo. My plan is, after I take my board exam *hopefully i will pass*, I want to enroll myself in a good aviation school to start my career/life to become a pilot. Am just wondering, is there an age limit for applying in such schools? And how about scholarship offers? My family isn't capable of paying for my tuition so I guess I have to rely on scholarship offers to let my dreams come true (that sounded cheesy, I guess).

2. What is the best school for aviation? *best in terms of facilities, tuition/scholarship offers, job placements, board exam perfomance(?)*

3. Any tips/comments/reactions about my plans? Is my plan doable in my case?

Sounds like finance is going to be your big problem. Get a job in Chemistry with Applied Computer Systems and fly when you can, build up a big pot of cash and then perhaps go to a flying school.

many of us couldn't afford to learn to fly...we worked in crummy little jobs and saved evern penny and somehow got ourselves through. character building they call it.

I don't know anyone who offers a scholarship to become a pilot, unless you join the military and are selected to be a pilot.

if you want to fly for fun, do it.
If you want to fly just to get a pilots job and for a decent life don't do it.
my 2 pence.

I would not even recommend my biggest enemy to waste any money and time for a flying job. Aviation is getting worse and worse and still has not reached the bottom of the dump

I have to agree with airbus. Why invest £100000 to spend the rest of your career being treated like a commodity that can be used and abused at the employer's whim.The industry is racing for the bottom and the remuneration and benefits of the professional pilot are going in the same direction.

And that new future is liners from NYC to Southampton (only 5 days) or that high speed maglev undersea rail from Bangor to London. Or dog sled.

At 18 years of age, aspiring to be a pilot, you need to weigh up the opportunities in your country and how they equate with your ability to train and qualify in the direction you decide to take. Try to find one or two old hands who will give you some advice based on their assessment of your particular potential. Maybe in the Phillipines you can apply to do some work experience.

For a start, even if it is not the area you believe you may eventually work in, go to your nearest flying school or air charter business and ask whether you can sweep out the hangar or wash the aeroplanes because you are keen to start on the ground floor. (Work out before you first go in exactly what you want to say, because first impressions are crucial. If you are at all nervous by nature, then you must explore ways to reduce this.)

Then after a few days, approach one of the senior staff , (quite a few women working in aviation type offices or on the front desk are the sort who would tell you, quietly, who to speak with and who not to.) . If you show potential, you never know, it might be your lucky day, with a few words of guidance you will never forget.

Without going overboard, make sure that your appearance is always the best you can manage. (Dress neatly, plainly, not stylishly, with no in-your-face colours.) And if there is a 'motherly' type working there, do not be shy about asking what things you should be aware of while on the premises. Above all, know that you have to apply yourself in a diligent, disciplined way, expecting nothing on a plate.

wannabe pilot

Hi,
I was looking through threads and people comments regarding pilot training and job opportunity out there for new cadets. I want to be an airline pilot since I was young but due to financial n other problems this dream kind of vanished. Now I am 29 yrs old and have money to sponsor my self for training and I so want to do the pilot training from ctc london but my only problem is my age I noticed that most airlines don't hire fresh cadet pilots above 28 or 30. I am so confused war should I di. After putting that much money in line and no outcome can give anyone a fright.
Please help me in this matter
