Are you sure it was from Tenerife? In my experience (and I admit I could be wrong) TOM flights usually have a 4 number callsign (eg TOM 4033) rather than just 2, and the 'P' suffix with most operators indicates an empty positioning flight.

G-OOPH

Was re-registered years ago as Thomson already had G-BYAH and they only wanted one "Alpha Hotel" in the fleet.

Just as a follow up to Chevron's reply. TOM flights along with most TCX, RYR and EZY flights now use alpha-numeric call signs. These are suppossed to make communication between the aircrew and atc better but I am not convinced.

Flights with a 'P' suffix used to be positioning flights, and sometimes still are, but they are also used for lots of other flights. For example, over the summer TOM58P was TOM 5517 (MAH - STN) and TOM69P was TOM4655 (PMI - LGW).

I try and maintain a list of these flights (for my own amusement) and currently have about 3100 listed. The codes change as the seasons change. I am currently updating the list as the clocks have changed and this seems to make everyone change. If anyone has any data I can use, or even better knows how to get hold of 'official' info I would love to hear from them. Also if anyone wants a copy of my excel file with the details then let me know.

Cheers, Andy S

Well that is what Flight Radar 24 quoted it as. Someone needs to update their database.

To passengers TOM flight have a 4 digit flight number on Intra-EU flights. Non-EU flights have 3 digits following the airline code TOM.

I used to do this when they were first introduced with BA. I think it was British Regional and their complete randomness that forced me to abandon it. There is no one repository for this information as it's generated by the airline and shared with ATC, multiply airlines by ATC units and you have a multiplicity of sources. libhomeradar and the like are not accurate and often out of dates as alha numerics are reallocated at end of season by some airlines, Lufthansa springs to mind. Some are consistent for years however!
