Aircraft parked at LGW
Does anyone know why the MD-80 from ItAli Airlines has been parked over by the cargo area for so long? I've flown through Gatwick a couple of times in the last month and it has always been parked there going nowhere.
Also, does anyone know the regs of the 2 parked 757's outside the BA hangar?

Cheers for that. When I flew out yesterday there were two parked, with at least one of them with blue undersides and G- regs.
There was also a white A320 parked there but I assumed this was the Astraeus aircraft which is being by BA as backup.

If it's all white it's likely G-STRP as that was next to G-CPER when I passed through. However there was an ex BA A320 G-BUS* with blue undersides kicking around Hangar 6 recently as well.

The BA A320 is G-BUSH that has now been withdrawn from service. The ex BA B757's seem to be sent to LGW before heading off to the USA for cargo conversion. The A320 all in white (G-STRP) is indeed the back up a/c leased from Astraeus, it has only been used once in that role so far.

Good Grief , I thought G-BUSH would have been bakebean tins by now it was in the batch of Airbuses we took over from I think B.U.A. back in the early 80s we used to call it George after the then president.

Not quite - G-BUSH delivered 12/88.

Sorry mate, feeling particularly mischaevous today.............
A more pointless reply is going to be hard to find anywhere on PPRuNe.
Hey guys, just for info, ref the MD80. It was built during the MD80 building period way back when. It's not being currently used as there is no use for it. It is however likely to be used again in the near future, when needed.
