Aircraft parked at LGW

Does anyone know why the MD-80 from ItAli Airlines has been parked over by the cargo area for so long? I've flown through Gatwick a couple of times in the last month and it has always been parked there going nowhere.

Also, does anyone know the regs of the 2 parked 757's outside the BA hangar?

Skipness One Echo 23rd Jan 2011 19:36

There was on ex BA B757 last Saturday noted, G-CPER less titles if that helps.

CKT789 23rd Jan 2011 20:17

Cheers for that. When I flew out yesterday there were two parked, with at least one of them with blue undersides and G- regs.

There was also a white A320 parked there but I assumed this was the Astraeus aircraft which is being by BA as backup.

Skipness One Echo 24th Jan 2011 08:48

If it's all white it's likely G-STRP as that was next to G-CPER when I passed through. However there was an ex BA A320 G-BUS* with blue undersides kicking around Hangar 6 recently as well.

The BA A320 is G-BUSH that has now been withdrawn from service. The ex BA B757's seem to be sent to LGW before heading off to the USA for cargo conversion. The A320 all in white (G-STRP) is indeed the back up a/c leased from Astraeus, it has only been used once in that role so far.

Thanks everyone. Anyone know the back story of the ItAli MD-80?

Bigt 27th Jan 2011 10:12

Some of the officals of ItAli were arrested recently for alledged tax offences......

AVNBROKER 27th Jan 2011 14:13

There may be some issues regarding payments to Eurocontrol

avionic type 27th Jan 2011 15:53

Good Grief , I thought G-BUSH would have been bakebean tins by now it was in the batch of Airbuses we took over from I think B.U.A. back in the early 80s we used to call it George after the then president.
:hmm::hmm::hmm:

Not quite - G-BUSH delivered 12/88.

Owned by GA Telesis Leasing, so they might be hoping to squeeze some commercial life out of it yet.

Evanelpus 28th Jan 2011 10:10

Sorry mate, feeling particularly mischaevous today.............

Hey guys, just for info, ref the MD80. It was built during the MD80 building period way back when. It's not being currently used as there is no use for it. It is however likely to be used again in the near future, when needed.
A more pointless reply is going to be hard to find anywhere on PPRuNe.

Not quite - G-BUSH delivered 12/88.
Not quite - G-BUSH delivered 19/06/89.

And still registered, according to CAA, to BAW.

The-Zenith 1st Feb 2011 11:17

I am told the MD-80 was impounded.

LGWWelsh 1st Feb 2011 15:48

It was indeed detained last year and won't be going anywhere just yet.

G-BUSH

What eventually happened to G-BUSH? Is it back in service or still in storage/parking? And if so, where? Still registered to BAW?

HEATHROW DIRECTOR 5th May 2011 16:23

<<What eventually happened to G-BUSH?>>

It ought to be a gate guardian at Gatwick in recognition of a past Chief Officer!

airsmiles 5th May 2011 19:26

G-BUSH went to Lourdes in March for scrapping.

G-BUSH went to Lourdes in March for scrapping.
Not healing, then?
;)

Chap6168 6th May 2011 17:01

Don't know about yesterday but the 2 unliveried BA 757's there today are G-CPER and G-CPES and there is a BA 757 Open Skies F-GPEJ

Ahh-40612 8th May 2011 01:59

The MD80 was recently advertised for sale by NATS!
I think they must be owed a lot for route charges etc.

40612 now just a memory
