Nimrod MRA4
Given that we are cancelling this project and abandoning maritime reconnaisance, can we list where the aircraft are currently? Are they all at Warton? Are any visibile?
What a waste !

Most kind. I have been following the thread with interest. I just wanted to see and perhaps shoot a couple of them. Haven't even seen one fly yet, doubt I ever will now.
Never saw an AEW3 either, left it to late to track them down.

As far as I know
PA1 ZJ516 is outside at Woodford
PA2 ZJ518 is outside at Woodford
PA3 ZJ517 is, I think in a hangar at Woodford
PA4 ZJ514 is at Warton, I don't know where
PA5 ZJ515 is at Woodford in finals
PA6 never flew and is at Woodford
If you go down the golf course road at Woodford, you'll see PA1 and PA2

Chaps can anyone confirm if ZJ514 returned to Woodford from Warton?
I'm guessing no more flights even out to another field for a museum? Never saw one fly! Argh!

As an aside - for anyone with Microsoft FSX who's missing these impressive aircraft - a variety of Nimrod models have just been released as freeware by SimShed.
Simshed
Good looking model, nice flight dynamics and sounds. Had some fun in FSX flying circuits at Lossiemouth.

Given that they're pretty much paid for and the RAF's first was ready to enter service AND given the fact they've had to spend even more money on cancelling the thing....*ramble | rave | foam at mouth | rant* etc
I give up.
Two complete airframes outside on a very wet Sunday afternoon, two semi complete parked between the hangars. Having helped to pay for them, at least I saw them.

one at cvt too.
If there complete with engines then they aint airframes, there aircraft ,airframe refers to the aircraft minus the engines , use the correct term instead of daft spotter speak.
We bow to your obviously superior knowledge of aeronautical terms, if not punctuation. In engineer speak it's "they're" not "there".
If they are not complete and don't have engines - are they airframes as well?

I cannot say if ZJ516 and ZJ518 have engines as in the Nimrod design they're buried in the wing and hence when wrapped and taped up as the aircraft are, it's not possible to tell. The two between the hangars have no engines.
Have a look at the links above, the photos are exactly what I managed to see.
Thanks for the help everyone, was worth the hike on a personal level.

As this is the Spectators Balcony, aka Spotters Corner, I think that "spotter speak" is perfectly acceptable.
Incidentally if an aircraft has engines, and a fuselage, and wings, and a horizontal stabilizer, but no vertical stabilizer is it an aircraft or an airframe? If it has engines and wings a complete empenage but no avionics is it an airframe or an aircraft?
Some people could do with leaving the "holier than thou" attitude in work, where no doubt it is considered an asset.....

I understand the unfinished ones - airframes/aircraft or whatever else you want to call them - that are between the hangars are now hidden from view by a plastic screen, no doubt to stop people getting photos of them being cut up.
Sad, but they are now the UK's most expensive pile of scrap metal
