Spotters want viewing platform at Lossie.
I bet they'd want a clear view, seating, overhead protection and heating too. Whats the place coming to?

And I should hope they'd get it. These are the guys whose taxes pay for our toys and it is just very good PR to provide this sort of facility. The one at RNAS Culdrose has excellent parking, a great view, and a cafe and shop which sells appropriate souvenirs. But then the Navy were always miles ahead of us in this sort of thing.

I thought they allready had one? The old road to the north of the 23 threshold (between the golf course and the wire). And didn't Kinloss recently build a viewing area (off the Findhorn road)? I remember years ago the RE's built a good spotters car park at Linton. I'm with Tanker - Joe Public has paid for all this so he has a right to see it. And at least if they are in a spotters park they won't be crawling under the wire/over the crash gates/etc and giving the RAFP and Civ plod trouble.
Good idea, and makes up for the lack of public (military) air shows around the UK these days - though you can almost hear the ambulance chasing lawyers rubbing thier hands with glee at the prospect of "noise related injury claims" being submitted once JCA (or, just for BEags, Dave B) is based at Lossie. Noisy bu99er I'm led to believe (I'm talking about JCA there, not BEags!).

My, how times change, I can remember the times, when, if you as much as looked if you were stopping near an airfield the RAF police would try to move you on.

The understanding and common sense approach at our military airfields is much better than the absolute paranoia at some of our civilian fields.
Now I'm not decrying much needed security I'm just saying that you should at least speak to the nice family watching the planes before you send the armed Police to lecture them under the Prevention of Terrorism Act.
Some of our airfields have a good balance, some just have horrible men in dayglo uniforms who enjoy wielding power alas.

As already mentioned as long as no intrestests in national security are being infringed , is not a good idea to get joe public on side and portray the RAF in a possitive light , esp when all it takes is one stupid bit reporting from some cheap hack about helicopter miss use tosome dinner party or golf outing !
And like previously sayed sell some goods ! ear plugs /local sq whiskys /patches the list is endless it would soon pay for its sell !!
