Getting from LGW (South) Terminal to viewing location, 08R

Good morning,

I am passing through LGW on Sunday for a few hours; it looks like it will be a nice day, with easterly winds, so I thought "why not go around to get some landing shots on 08R?

Can anyone tell me the best way to get to a/the spotting location for landing shots on 08R?

Are there buses available; any idea, roughly, of how much a taxi would cost?

As far as I know, and I might be wrong, there is a minimum charge for taxis booked from the booths at the airport - I got one from North Terminal to Manor Royal (just a couple of miles) and it was a tenner which was the least they could charge.

Not sure which buses do run along that southside (Charlwood Road), although there might, from memory, be one from the airport that goes along past the flight tavern pub and then turns left into Bonnetts Lane.

Been a while since I worked down that way so bit hazy I'm afraid!

Good luck - its a good spot once you get there.

Gatwick is on westerlies this morning and wind forecast to be similar tomorrow so you probably won't get landing shots there..

Where is the best place for landing (or approach) shots, if 26L is in use?

There's an excellent unobstructed view of the 26L threshold and Mike and Alpha holding points from the perimeter road.

Starting from the Virgin check-in area in departures, there are a set of doors in the corner marked 'Concorde House'. If one passed through those doors (they also say staff only, so I'd never suggest such a thing) then it's down the stairs, outside and a one minute walk back around the perimeter road.
