4 Plane Trail in Scottish Skies

Hi, I wonder if anyone can help or direct me to the right place! This morning at just after 10am we noted the trails of four planes travelling overhead, they were in to sets of 2, offset, and I've never seen anything like it! I live 40 miles north of Aberdeen and I feel they were too high to be coming into ABZ ... can anyone suggest an answer? We're very curious!

Yes, as I didn't end the sentence with, "... and it reminded me of boobs...", I'm sure it was a give away

'11/5/09 - 22/5/09 Exercise JOINT WARRIOR 09-1

UK-Wide.
JOINT WARRIOR 09-1 is a major exercise involving all three UK services and 12 invited NATO and Allied Nations. The exercise is one of the major training opportunities for UK Forces in 2009, and will provide joint collective training and pre-deployment training in a multi-threat environment. Up to 85 aircraft, 22 ships, 3 submarines and a number of Land Units will operate from various bases in the UK and abroad. The main exercise areas will be Wales, Scotland and the border regions of England, with maritime operations being conducted off the north and west coast of Scotland. Flying operations will generate about 100 sorties each day (Monday to Friday). The exercise scenario involves three sovereign nations, disuputed territory and a state-sponsored terrorist movement. The scenario will develop over the two-week period allowing Force Integration Training during a period of tension, before simulated war-fighting operations. Air operations will include Composite Air Operations, Close Air Support and Electronic Warfare Training. As part of JOINT WARRIOR, up to 500 RAF personnel will deploy to RAF Kinloss to set up and operate an Air Deployed Operating Base (DOB) in a simulated austere location. When the DOB is complete, it will accommodate a detachment of fast-jet aircraft and supporting infrastructure. This aspect of the exercise provides training for an Expeditionary Air Wing in short-notice contingency operations.'

Saw the same trails from the road just outside Rhynie. I was driving at the time and had just been overflown by something very noisy which I did not see. I commented on the fact that it sounded particularly low when my wife in the passenger seat pointed up to the contrails. Ho Hum!

Yep, plenty of goings on yesterday including what sounded like someone on a jolly who got too close to the action on 121.5. In the afternoon spotted an Orion heading out west at about 8000'. Four engined TP, that's a real man's job. Could be lady pilots though......which reminds me of boobs
