As i think someone already said, "don't shoot the messenger" does apply with crewing and rostering. Though it had to be said flightcrew do their jobs, it would make a nice change if someitmes other people did theirs, like book the right hotel, taxi etc.... but i guess you pay nuts you get monkeys!!! Yet another fine consequence of the bean counter.

Some people are never happy hmmmmmmmmmmmm
nice to see a post from you, Inciter, what happened to the e-mail?, and as for Crewingbod, well half of your flightdeck don`t know their born, and the other half, well, we just shut up happy in the knowledge that we`ve got the most stable rosters in the industry. i can`t remember the last time my advanced roster didn`t 100% reflect what i actually did save for the odd tech problem, which is not bad considering i did over 80 sectors in the last 4 weeks

A number of the replies to this thread have been of the variety of 'What are you moaning about? Your'e lucky to have the job'. But there is serious point to the original post.
Yes having lots of time off before a route check gives you time to swat up on all of the procedures, but complaining about not flying much before a route check can only be taken as a responsible attitude. After all the pilot that doesn't care how he does on a route check is likely to be the one that doesn't care how he flies normally, and that can not be a good thing.
So where does the responsibility for this kind of rostering lie? Rostering blame the training department and the training department blame rostering or say they can not interfere with rostering.
Bit of a dilemma really!

Pandora, you have my fullest sympathy and understanding. I know exactly where you coming from. Like you say, better to air your frustration here, in a place where at least some people might understand that you are not a stupid s*d but a very frustrated prefessional, than in the office.
Easy enough to say for some on this thread how hard it is for rosterers to please everyone; but of course nobody expects them too. What can be expected is a modicum of intelligence applead to a job which is more than just number crunching.
And to say that all rosteres sometimes have to do something which the crewmember in question doesn't like, is also rather obvious.
After 20 years at their merci, I know for a fact exactly which rosterers in our mob will honestly try and help me out when in a bind, and which ones lack the talent and humanuty to even try. And that's not mentioneing the thankfully few really evil ones who seem to take a perverted pleasure in thwarting anything a crewmember might find convenient.
No, the rosterers are not manning a travel agency. But it's amazing how different the sicky-statistics are for the ones known as "good" compared to the well known "rotters".
Small example. When mr40 broke leg in 3 places 6 yers ago I needed immediate leave of absence to look after him and 2 small 40's. So I was honest and put the matter to my rosterer. Couldn't get it, had to resign!! Which I did on the spot, after 14 years with the comp.
Took 3 weeks until some bigwig in the comp heard about it, and I got reinstated!
Pandora, we both know they are not all evil, but many of them are pretty lousy at their job!!

Unfortunately, same sad saga in most Airlines. Hardware (aeroplanes etc.) are assets, and have to be looked after, but people, well what's the problem, they run only on fresh air. Family, and personal needs? Come on, what do you mean, you sold your soul to the Company.
Perhaps one day attitudes will change, but I doubt it.
In the meanwhile, some whinging can actually be healthy, as it not only releases some personal pressure, but also provides useful feedback to the management types who view these forums. They can then provide more effective management. SORRY, THERE I GO AGAIN, DREAMING.
