Your favourite part of the flight

As professional pilots, what is your favourite part of a flight? Is it hearing the engines roar when spooling up for take-off? Is it pulling off a tricky landing? I know the question is a bit cliched, but I am genuinely interested to hear from the people who fly the heavy metal what aspect of flying they really enjoy (hopefully doing it professionally doesn't take all the fun out of it!). I thought this was the best place to ask. Thanks in advance.

Defo the landing - it means the workday is over and I get to go home.

When the front door shuts, the fun begins and all the ground pounders stop bothering you.

Launching on a dull cloudy day, then popping out into a brilliant blue sky. It does wonders for the mood.

Landing in max crosswinds & mod turbulence (great fun), also doing circling approaches in France like Avignon etc.

Hear hear! I might just be SLF, but it has exactly the same effect on me! Until the point you disappear into the clouds and pop out the other side into a dull, cloudy day elsewhere...

Don't fly heavy metal but the first take off of the day and the last landing are usually favourites.

But sometimes of a summer evening climbing over a blanket of cloud. The sun beginning to set, tingeing everything with red and gold. The sense of being 'elsewhere' is overwhelming particularly if you've reached a point in the day when you sense the aircraft as if it were part of you rather than a cold machine.

It's a rare experience. But when it happens the atmosphere in the aircraft changes. The people in the back go quiet and anyone sitting beside you either says nothing or simply 'Beautiful isn't it?'.

Better still, someone is paying me to be there!
