Bae Warton Antanov

Dear All

This is my first visit to the forum, and it was prompted by the fact that someone told me that an Antanov is due at BAE Warton next week to take out an Indian Air Force jet (Presumably to India!)

I know absolutely nothing about planes, but would love to see an Antanov and wonder if anyone could confirm this rumour.

The date given was Tues Feb 3 2009.

Thanks in advance

Antonov

A quick google makes me think that the Antonov will probably be collecting Hawks for delivery. I have no idea on the layout of Warton so would an An124 get in there?

Think I remember reading about an AN-124 going into BAE Woodford with a Nimrod fuselage from another UK airport, and that the cargo was offloaded on the runway before the Antonov left.

Fairly sure that Warton sees more traffic than Woodford, so would expect them to be able to handle it ok - even if the aircraft has to take on fuel somewhere else nearby after departure.

excuse the silly question... but, assuming they are whole and serviceable aircraft... why not fly them?

Depending on how many planes they have its maybe cheaper.
And it can be a matter of Overflightpermissions.

An124 BAe Warton

Hi Folks
The rumour here close to Warton is that it is due in on Monday 2nd Feb,but no time.
And as for asking if it will be able to get in, yes its been in before a few times a little tight on the turnaround at the end of rwy 26,but still gets in and out of there..
Should be a great sight and if anyone else has any more updates on it coming in,it would be great to hear them.
Cheers ...
Simon

The first AN-124 to visit Warton did so on June 22, 1995. See here

There have been several more visits over the years, including the AN-22.
