Aircraft salvage yard
Not sure if what forum to put this in but I am a restaurant owner in Manchester, UK. I was wondering if there is some sort of salvage yard around the north of England where i could pick up an old aircraft. To display at one of my restaurant. I would not want to buy a serviceable aircraft cos i would feel bad taking a good aircraft away from someone who may want it to use for what it was made for. So maybe if I could get my hands on an old scraper?
Can't really help, but am also interested in aircraft parts.
I recently got chatting to a chap who had built the most eccentric motorbike, using ex mil aircraft parts.
He told me that it all came from a place near Chelmsford.
So if anybody knows if it still exists, or any alternatives, please chip in.

What type of restaurant is it? Does it have an aviation theme, or is it close to the airport in Manchester?
Can't say I've been to many restaurants around the world that have significant aircraft chunks in them apart from the odd propeller on the wall etc.

Beware
Be careful if buying a scrap aircraft as some of the larger ones have blocks of depleted uranium fitted as balancing tabs. These are extremely expensive to dispose of legally and you may be liable to pay for them to be stored for an infinite time in an approved storage. In fact you may never lose title to them if they come into your ownership as no-one wants to own them. So do look any gift horse carefully in the mouth.

If you want a light aircraft and have no luck closer to home, there's a guy dahn here in the south who scraps time (or accident) expired singles and twins on his farm near Caterham. Think he's still there anyway.

There was once a restaiurant in Fleet Hampshire call "Dakotas" the reastaurant had its own lake and the view from inside the diner overlooked this lake, The owner bought an old DC-3 and embedded it in the middle of the lake (pic here Panoramio - Photo of Dakota's Restaurant, Cove Rd, Fleet. ) all the parts not visable in the photo, ie engines cockpit etc were removed from the aircraft before it was submerged and these adorned the inside of the diner. The one downfall not considered ny the owner was the amount of phone calls the authorities would get by passing motorists who didn't know the area who reported the crash of a plane
the place is now called "The Heron" and all aircraft pieces and parts have been removed from the area, not sure what the reg was or what ultimatly happened to the fuselage

It was G-MONC and Monarch did not scrap it.
It was sold a few years back to a company called TES, they are the ones that decided to scape it (part it out).
The main reason is more than likely because the a/c is non-Etops.

Just had a reply from Air Salvage, which doesn't look too hopeful. I'm after hoseclips, linkages, bellows, hoses. All the bits which are probably 'use once'.
I will write back to them, but does anybody else have any ideas? The motorbike builder was able to pick through all sorts of scrap, and was able to show me the Tornado pedals, etc etc.. That's the sort of stuff I'm after, as scrap, not ephemera.

Is there a company still operating at Blackpool that deals with write offs, all light aircraft. A friends AA5 was sent there after it was declaired an insurance write off.
Sorry no name comes to mind.
