Acceleration Height

How do crews decide on what value to use as the ACCEL HEIGHT? Do you use the default FMC value, or are they published somewhere?

They're in the performance manuals for each aircraft type worked out by people far cleverer than us.

To expand - companies normally specify both a 'minimum' and a 'normal' as well, and then the airfield tables will be airfield specific, allowing for obstacles.
