Flat Landing??

Does this landing look a bit on the flat side to you?

Depends what you compare it to. To a 747 or a DC10, yes, but it's not the same as them. It's a turboprop, with a lot of propwash giving lift on the wing. It may be very light. So compare it to a Hercules or an F27 or an HS748, and it's just as you would expect.

On the other end....Take Offs, a lot of a/c do a "positive" rotate, stick back, nose up to xx degrees [depends on type] and away you go. The Boeing 707 on the other hand just "Eased" off the runway. Well, that was the view from the Tower .

What ON EARTH is a "flat landing" ?

If the landing is much less than flat it has to be a 'balloon' or a 'heavy'!!

Turboprops look like that. In fact, F27s and the 748 have a positively frightening nose down angle on final approach thanks to a lot of lift from the prop wash going over the wing. When they get near the runway, the nose lifts flat like that. The picture looks like a normal approach by a large turboprop- in this case a 4 engined one with masses of lift from the props. If you couple into that it may very well be empty, then it will indeed appear 'flat'.

Nothing unusual. Similarly, IL-18s never seemed to flare or rotate... they just landed or lifted off "flat". The aeroplane in the pic is a truly amazing machine don't you think?

You'll see a lot of Antonovs/Ilyushins on very short finals in an almost nose down position like that. Check out some pictures of An-12s, An-124s and Il-76s on the web.
