GPWS sound in different airplanes

I noticed my self, last time I was flying (not me, but the pilots) Dash 8, a new sound in their GPWS system. I sat on jumpseat and heard when passing DH their minimums sound: Wasn`t that the Boeing 737 NG GPWS sound of minima? Also the RA calls sounded all like the 737 NG sound. This was with Widerøe in one of their Dash 8 100 aircraft.

From where do they get their sounds? Is this integrated in some hardware or are they able to change this soundsets when they like to?

I was used to this (widerøe edition) and suddently I heard this (737 NG?)

You can hear the sound by clicking the links (20 kb - mp3)

Re: GPWS sound in different airplanes

Just a guess but maybe they've fitted EGPWS in place of the GPWS and the new system comes with a different set of recordings.

As far as I know, the crew can't change the sound set.

Re: GPWS sound in different airplanes

Thanks alot for answer. Now I heard with an airbus pilot that the technics could change this soundset by changing some pinsettings. Surely this airplane had an a new set of sounds innstalled.

We have Honeywell MK-XXII EGPWS in our S-92's. The voice used for the warnings is recorded by an engineer at Honeywell and cannot be changed. We can only change the volume.

Okay

Today I flew fra Tromsø (ENTC) to Vadsø (ENVD) with Widerøe and got the sound I wanted, but only the short test sound. I was out after a sound to GPWS system test in MS Flightsim 9. This Dash 8 had different sound than the others again.

Today I flew the Dash 8 100. I got the full system test sequence, and recorded it. I think the flightcrew was very nice to me! :-)
