Mars Helicopter.

No point starting a new discussion as it's already ongoing in the rotorcraft forum.
However, here's a link just in case you missed it.
Contra-rotating helicopter now based on Mars

First flight on another planet

NASA successfully flew a helicopter on another planet but it seems sadly to have gone largely unreported .The helicopter contains a small piece of muslin from the Wright Flyer.

It's getting coverage on Australian ABC news this morning.

All the main news channels are covering it in the UK. There's also a thread running in the Rotorcraft forum.

All I have heard all day in the UK is football and there was nothing on the BBC news website about this historically significant flight. I never venture into the rotorcraft forum, shouldn’t it be in the spaceflight forum?

I did post a link in the Space Flight forum to the Rotorcraft one. Seemed pointless to start another thread.
As for BBC, I've just watched the News channel and they had a good interview with one of the chief designers and showed the video of the flight.
The website had the story up and running before mid day today.

ICAO assigned NASA a new ICAO designator "IGY" for the callsign "ingenuity" and assigned the operational area on mars the four letter code JZRO as short for Jezero Crater. Kinda quirky and nerdy celebration of this event, which of course begs the question: has ICAO any jurisdiction about extra-terrestrial aviation in the solar system?

There's been discussion/debate for quite some time that ICAO should have some form of jurisdiction of spaceflight, e.g. up to geo-stationary orbit.

However I'm not sure the Martians will be to happy about an Earth based organisation trying to lay claim to heir (thin) air space.
