Requirements for work outside the EU

I wonder if anybody can help. I am very tentatively thinking about working abroad for a while, with the possibility of emigrating for good. Unfortunately, I am not widely travelled and I wouldn't have a clue about visas/work permits.
I have a degree in aeronautical engineering, but I have never worked in that field. I believe the US offers the best chance of getting meaningful employment.

Where should I begin? Sorry if this is all a bit vague.

Presumably you have contacted the US embassy in London? They will have details of immigration/work permits etc. Likewise any other country you are interested in.

Depending on your quals, do you belong to a professional body who might be able to help?
