SIA CARGO R/W Excursion

The Channel NEWSASIA reported as follows:

According to a statement by Changi Airport Group, the aircraft veered off the runway after landing around 4.40pm.
Anyone heard of further details.. Very2 quiet I noticed.

Incident: Singapore B744 at Singapore on Dec 2nd 2011, runway excursion

Ten-miles final 2nd Dec 2011 20:11

Again?

Bad luck but looks too often for one airline within one month?

Slasher 3rd Dec 2011 02:46

There's always something going down at Singas - if it isn't BA
blowing tyres or SIA going off the runway or somebody with
stuck brakes its some other bloody thing. Maybe its just been
my bad luck being rostered to SIN every time **** happens.

Thankfully these days I don't go there much anymore, but if
and when I do I always carry extra for those sudden runway
closures on top of everything else (wx/traffic holding etc). For
dep I usually triple the normal taxi fuel for those times when
I estimate ATC will refuse to tell me the pecking order for TO
just before pushback.

rain5 3rd Dec 2011 08:41

well well

So another one.

Now it would be interesting to see if its an " Expat Hero" or a Local Boy.- But hey heres a thought......- 95 % of the SQC pilots are Expats.

Any Comments Cargo jock?- :ok:

Trouble is Slash that nine times out of ten it is out of Singpaore ATCs hands. If the departure is anywhere between due West of Changi, through North to due East then flow control is in the hands of Malaysia and they give the departure sequence.

poser 3rd Dec 2011 10:55

Singapore runways are long & wide. The weather then did not seem like it is minima conditions. Wonder if there is something we can learn from what happened...?

misd-agin 3rd Dec 2011 13:36

I think it was the winds fault. :ooh:

Slasher 3rd Dec 2011 18:11

No its not that para - "No PDC" departure procedures covers
that AFAIK. Its that 1 out of 10 where you turn onto say WP
and see the numbers ahead of you for 20R, and told you're
#15 for TO (ten for 20R and five others for 20C).

I wouldn't complain if SIN had gatehold procedures similar to
what I've encountered in the States - better to just sit there
and read the paper over a coffee while waiting and burn APU
fuel (or ramp connect), rather than with all engines running.

Neupielot 4th Dec 2011 06:26

ermm what went wrong? hardly any wind (metar history).

Mega 4th Dec 2011 06:54

Hmm, have you guys never heard of aircraft parts/systems malfunctions?
At least i have. Anything can happen out there you know that. The flight is not over until you are parked and shut down.

Regarding whos sitting in the front row, well no one wants to weer of the RWY or screw up if you say, does not matter witch nationality thats up front.

One has to assume that the two guys up front is checked out and ready for the job.

From the other side of the free world

A380 Jockey 4th Dec 2011 17:55

Slasher,
In my 30 plus years of having come into singapore on a wide body i have NEVER BEEN 'number 15' in departure sequence. And even when i have been close to those numbers, i have never been delayed by more than 3-4 mins max!
I have only the best of comments and reservations when it comes to ATC singapore. A thoroughly professional lot.
Not removing anything from the fella who wanted to wipe his landing gear clean on the grassy patch of the golfing greens though ...:p

Slasher 4th Dec 2011 20:54

Well aren't you the lucky one! Try reading the last sentence
in the first paragraph of my first post AGAIN.

rain5 seemed lucky at sq and mh as he had his fengshui compass to fly with! may not be so lucky in his rm30 million suit against mh.

overmars 5th Dec 2011 03:04

Investigations still under way. So let's wait a bit. Meanwhile, met report is out. No bad weather, though it did rain the whole morning that day.

NOT WITHSTANDING 5th Dec 2011 03:30

We had just started descent when told 30 mins holding due runway closure. not much info coming from ATC, probably wasn't much to pass on until the a/c was clear and requirements assessed.

Jahore filled up quick with SQ diversions and Batam became the flavour of the arvo, company fuel would have seen us there.

Landed 55 mins after initial prediction, still legal.

Pavement dry when we landed and history winds were not above 3 kts, base above 8000ft, no TS on TAF.

Interested to know the details when released, great day 1 for line training, just like a sim session except no break for coffee!

ggofpac 11th Dec 2011 23:41

Any news of what caused the excursion?

Many thanks.

This incident, happened at their home base, shows the level of inexperience among SIAC pilots.
It is not new that the management, safety and training departments at SIAC are composed with a curious mix of nationalities and different experience background, not a good combination. The blaming game has started and heads will roll, not R.L. for sure.
With the increasing numbers of new and inexperienced pilots on the left seat, we can expect reading more negative news about SIAC.
Good luck

Incidents and accidents are not restricted to those with the least experience but please tell us just what did happen, since you seem to know?

With the increasing numbers of new and inexperienced pilots on the left seat,
Have they lowered the requirements for a B744 command then?

… Well, a Delta B767 landed on taxiway at Hartsfield (ATL), so what can be said about it?

It is not new that the management, safety and training departments at SIAC are composed with a curious mix of nationalities and different experience background, not a good combination.
… SIAC? And EY, EK, QR, blah, blah ….

The blaming game has started and heads will roll, not R.L. for sure.
... I heard RL has already left … but in October.

With the increasing numbers of new and inexperienced pilots on the left seat, we can expect reading more negative news about SIAC.
... Thanks, Nostradamus.

Funny :}
