Jahore filled up quick with SQ diversions and Batam became the flavour of the arvo, company fuel would have seen us there.
Does SIA still have Paya Lebar as that ridiculous alternate on
its CFPs? I know of not one SIA diversion (NOT ONE) to Paya
Lebar due to any reason (wx, runway closure etc). If you were
to go back in history to the mid-70s, Lebar was chosen by the
then "new" management in order to avoid payload penalty on
its 707s out of Bahrain (the previous expat MSA management
always used Muar so that you had something to play with if
and when the wx turned to crap.

Paya Lebar is still the nominated alternate for SQ into Changi Airport. With 15 minutes holding fuel, reserved fuel is normally about 7 tonnes. Not much for a 744. Of course, we can bring extra fuel for at least KUL.

It'll be most interesting to see a 707 land on the grass strip in Muar!

Paya Labar is like nominating 28L at LHR when landing on 28R. I personally never used it a fuel alternate except on a long haul flight where I had loads of contingency fuel which rarely got eaten into.
