Air asia Philippines?

A couple of months ago TF mentioned about setting up Airasia Philippines in Clark. Anybody got any news? Would be interesting since Tiger will soon have one foot in the philippines domestic air travel with Seair starting their A320 ops in Clark soon.

there it is boys! more pilots, engineers needed soon!

AirAsia to Form Philippine Venture With Cojuangco in First Quarter of 2011

By Cecilia Yap - Dec 7, 2010 7:00 PM GMT+0800
AirAsia Bhd., Southeast Asia’s biggest budget carrier, plans to form a Philippine unit by the first quarter of next year, Philippine Board of Investments head Cristino Panlilio said.
The Philippine venture will be formed with Antonio Cojuangco, a former chairman of Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co., and start flying domestic and overseas routes in 2011, Panlilio said by phone today. Cojuangco is President Benigno Aquino’s cousin and a nephew of San Miguel Corp. Chairman Eduardo Cojuangco.
Sepang, Malaysia-based AirAsia may expand into the Philippines as airlines including Cebu Air Inc. increase their fleets and services to meet rising demand in the archipelago. The government has set a target to double tourism arrivals in six years to help spur economic growth.
Today is a national holiday in Malaysia. An e-mail to AirAsia Chief Executive Officer Tony Fernandes didn’t immediately receive a reply.
Tiger Airways Holdings Ltd., the budget carrier backed by Singapore Airlines Ltd., on Nov. 23 said it will lease two planes to South East Asian Airlines or SEAir and form a marketing venture to expand into the Philippines.
SEAir flights from Clark, north of Manila, to Singapore will start Dec. 16 and be offered through Tiger Air’s website.

This is great news for the region. AA does for sure have a nice product coupled with cheap fares...win-win for the travellers in the Philippines! :ok:Always nice to have a competing product. ...needless to say GREAT employment avenue for the locals!:D

i dont think air asia will materialize, coz tiger air rocks our world in seair mabuhay goodluck guys you have a long way to go.

sbg007 29th Dec 2010 12:00

The best Reply I have read in a long time. Ha Ha:).

cebuano 30th Dec 2010 05:01

we'll see. i heard the package is going to be better than tiger

yano 30th Dec 2010 10:26

will they be hiring local pilots for F/O position?

squarecrow 1st Jan 2011 13:05

Not for 2 coconuts and 1 Banana per hr. Maybe you can hire new graduates from the Koh Samui Monkey School to do that.

onieangeles 2nd Jan 2011 03:02

stop dreaming guys, you cant stop tiger airways, its with us in seair

ILSystem 2nd Jan 2011 06:00

Onie tiger airways will be going to a brighter and better future as long as you don't interfere with the company with your own SOP!

chairwrecker 3rd Jan 2011 00:23

my bet is that the tiger/seair partnership will fall apart once airasia philippines sets up shop.

a345xxx 3rd Jan 2011 00:44

This is turning out into another cock fight between the two Tony's hopefully it ends up with pilots getting a better deal in the Philippines! :)

capt papa bear 4th Jan 2011 03:12

Good for all of us

Hi all.
Once Air Asia gets off ground 3Q this year, this will be good for all of us.
Remember this is a 60% owned Filipino company which bought the franchise from Air Asia Malaysia. Thus, its going to be local pilots & cabin crews & mechanics.
No way they will pay coconuts, bananas & peanuts. They wont get the pilots & cabin crews to get off the ground if they do this.
My reliable insider info told me that Air Asia Philippines is more interested into flying the West Coast US (i.e. SFO & LAX) route via Clark using the A340. PAL, watch out!!!
Sea Air/Tiger Air... hmmm...... not gonna be as big as Air Asia Phils... the Singaporean partners are not as enthusiastic as TF & his partners. Bear in mind that TC is first cousin of Pnoy... my best guess is he'll get the routes (and a lot more) for Air Asia Phils.
Cheers everyone.:ok:
The future is looking bright... I gotta wear shades!!!

a345xxx 4th Jan 2011 05:02

If they do go to LAX and SFO it would work out nicely for AK X as it would merge nicely into their network! Not just PAL but a lot of other carriers better watch out.......

chairwrecker 5th Jan 2011 00:24

AK flying to the US makes a lot of sense but it's not exactly a secret that every airline in the country wants to do that. 5J and Zest both have ambitions to fly transpac once the Philippines gets out of FAA Category 2. AK's edge is that they already have the equipment to do it, while the others will still have to get those big aircraft. :D

my oh my, PAL will definitely die once this happens. their US flights are the only ones keeping them alive. no wonder people chuckle whenever you hear old boy Jimmy B saying PAL isn't against Open Skies lol!

ACORD 5th Jan 2011 06:39

Gotta get to FAA CAT 1 first.... And with PNoy's cronies playing politics at CAAP that may take a while.

arigato 5th Jan 2011 11:37

Re-Cat I Restriction (FAA)

Does it apply to Air Asia? Will anyone elaborate further?

Anyway, Air Asia Philippines is a "FORCE" to reckon with considering the "powerful players" behind its establishment.

Does anyone know how much is the total package? Where to apply?

I'm just wondering if it is worth leaving my current outfit right now. :)

chairwrecker 12th Jan 2011 11:10

my understanding is that pocket open skies will be beneficial only to foreign airlines wanting access to the country. if air asia phils is set up as a local corporation, pocket open skies is irrelevant to the discussion.

chairwrecker 25th Jan 2011 06:34

no news on recruitment yet?? will they accept non-filipino?

capt papa bear 29th Jan 2011 14:10

no news on recruitment yet?? will they accept non-filipino? 12th Jan 2011 12:10
heard from the grapevine hiring will be Febuary 2011.
Operations starts Sept 2011.
Its a Filipino company, Air Asia Phils will only hire Filipino pilots unless they cant find enough pilots.

Ready your resumes amigos/amigas!

yano 29th Jan 2011 14:52

where can we send resumes? and any idea on the minimum requirements? :)

capt. solipsist 10th Feb 2011 11:18

hmmmm... guys, no intention to rain on your (OUR) parade. quite the contrary in fact, as I'm just as excited with this prospect.

however, let us temper our effervescence a bit by some reality check.

before Air Asia (or any airline) can operate hereabouts (thereabouts), they would have to pass through the CAB, w/c is mandated to conduct public hearings re their proposition.

has anyone among you had any experience how these things go?

during these public hearings, everyone and his brother is welcome to attend and OBJECT to the proposed business. hence, expect the existing airlines to make full use of their retainer liars, opps, lawyers, in obstructing said plan.

how long can this get? imagine a public hearing...

lawyer of opposition 1 (LO1): "your honor, how can the proponents claim that there is enough market to sustain such a proposal?"

lawyer of proponent (LP): "your honor, we would like to submit our feasibility studies that show that not only there is a market, but that even with the service we propose to provide, it will still be under-served by 20%"

LO 1: "your honor, we reserve the right to study such evidence and question the same for a later time."

presiding CAB director: "very well, this hearing is adjourned and reset to 2 weeks from now to enable the oppositors ample opportunity to study the submitted exhibit."

LO 1: "your honor, i beg your indulgence, but i have another hearing on that date. 3 weeks from now would be fine."

presiding CAB director: "i, on the other hand, am indisposed on that period. let's make it 4 weeks from now."

LO 2: "your honor, that is not feasible for me."

presiding CAB director: "5 weeks from now then."

LO 3: "I apologize your honor, but i have another hearing on that day."

presiding CAB director: "this hearing is adjourned, and shall resume until further notice to the satisfaction of all parties concerned."

get the drift? it always takes longer than expected, is all.

chairwrecker 11th Feb 2011 02:03

indeed, tony f chose his pinoy partners well. :E

arigato 11th Feb 2011 09:00

I agree!!! :ok: Joining is one way to consider to be an "Expat" at home. I just hope that the "package" will fit my requirement. :)

capt. solipsist 11th Feb 2011 11:25

cessna95, if what you said is true, it's the best news yet for me :D

bisaya 11th Feb 2011 12:45

T&Cs

we are talking about redeyes, productivity based pay, 25 minute turnarounds, manual loadsheets, no food and only hot water is free type of operation, right?

HarmonRabb 12th Feb 2011 21:57

there'll be another foreign player (CX/AHK) coming into Clark, however it will be operating as a cargo operator only. don't know the details yet but rumors has been spreading.
I heard it will take over the void that Fedex has left.

will be submitting to CAB soon for either A300, B737F and a B767 freighters. Has anyone heard about this and where we can apply? My source said that the hiring will be done here in Manila.

arigato 13th Feb 2011 10:11

Let's just wait for the TC's. ;) I'm sure that it will be a different type of LCC based on their standard in the region which is far more better than Tiger-Zest Air. 5J is totally out of the picture. Air Asia Philippines just need their "QUALIFIED PILOTS". :ok: For us in the LC's, it's just an open option if "the package is right". :)

AirAsia Delay Delivery of 10 Airbus A320

AFP 12th Feb. 2011

Malaysian budget carrier AirAsia has delayed the scheduled delivery of ten of its aircraft by three years to 2015, in a bid to switch its order to more fuel-efficient planes, the company said.

AirAsia agreed to order 175 Airbus A320 aircraft in 2005, with a delivery schedule running from December 2005 to October 2014, but earlier deliveries have been put back several times due to its overcrowded budget terminal.

"A key commercial reason for the (present) deferral... is to afford the company some flexibility to switch from its current order of the classic A320 to a new generation A320 aircraft which is more fuel efficient when such aircraft come into production in the near future," it said in a filing with the local bourse Friday.

"Despite the deferral, AirAsia will nevertheless be taking delivery of 14 aircraft in 2012," it added.

"This will enable the company to support the growth of its joint ventures in the Philippines as well as Vietnam while continuing to support existing affiliate airlines."

The company also said that the number of planes delivered in 2015 would accordingly increase from 9 to 19 aircraft, with no penalties payable for revising its delivery schedule.

In August the budget airline deferred delivery of seven aircraft by four years to 2015 due to space constraints at its Kuala Lumpur terminal.

In 2009, the Malaysian government vetoed AirAsia's ambitious plan to build its own 460-million-dollar airport far from the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) in a bid to improve standards and lower operational costs.

However, it is now relying on Malaysia Airports Holdings, which runs KLIA, to build a new budget terminal that is scheduled for completion by March 2012.

AirAsia, which was launched in 2001 with just two planes, is now the region's fourth-biggest carrier with 25 million passengers a year.

@arigato
TF is even more tightfisted than 5J's LYG so i'm not sure what you mean by AA being a diff kind of LCC...is that supposed to be good for the pilots??

@harmonrabb
at this point it's all noise....would love to be proved wrong though...

jens40202 14th Feb 2011 05:57

Open Season?

From what I read in the news, around 20 A320 for 5J til 2014 and Air Asia looking at a fleet around 20+ in 5Years, even without consideration for retirements , that would equate to a pilot reqt of around 350-400 for the Phils in the next 5 years?

a345xxx 14th Feb 2011 08:06

At the least its some job opportunities for us pilots.... just hope they are well paying options.

Talked to some AK boys over the net and the numbers they have shown me that they are getting is very good..... Comparable to Jetstar Asia and Silk Air!

chairwrecker 15th Feb 2011 01:13

speaking of which jetstar is also making some recent noise that they want to get into the philippines market with their own JV. they're mentioning san miguel as dialogue partner. hmmmm......
