Hello people,
Was with Himalaya until recently and left that place running! The Chinese morons are running the airline like a flying club and running it to the ground!! They stopped the DFO's pay in october for politely advising the 'President' (A chinese moron called Zhao who at a pilot meeting says he wants to check the pilot's blood pressure before a flight and dock his pay if it is over 120/80!!) that he was technically operating illegally as he did not have a work permit/business visa and that he had not even sought approval from the regulator!!
06 pilots (04 TRIs) have already resigned. Zhao has reduced per diems to USD60 and will reduce it further. He has stopped pilots' pay for no reason and some have been terminated without notice period and with no reason assigned as they raised serious safety concerns. The chinese management is now trying to reduce first officer training syllabus as there is a serious trainer shortage. The management wants to put spineless wannabes as post holders who will not stand up to Zhao and his suicidal diktats. There was even a newspaper article:
A Himalayan mess | Nation | Nepali Times
Pilots who were hired in July were not paid until October as President Zhao decreed that since aircraft delivery was delayed, he would not sign their contracts! It did not matter to him that the pilots had been given an offer letter and had left their previous jobs and were already undergoing training in Nepal! As per the HR Dept, though the contract says 3 months' notice, if pilots leave before 03 years, they need to pay the company 06 months' pay!! Recently some pilots resigned citing major contractual violations and safety concerns giving the company 03 months notice, the company's response was to terminate them with immediate effect. No 03 months notice and no pay in lieu. The management does not respect the contract at all...
Maintenance and engineering is a big issue. The aircraft is flying with burn marks on both pylons. Though this was raised with engineering (No guesses here... chinese again!) they said it was normal. The pilots raised it to Airbus who asked the guys to do immediate maintenance as it was a hot air leakage. No one knows if this was done, the airplane is still flying with burn marks on both pylons!
Airbus engineers working for another local airline caught the chinese engineers carrying out a pitot-static system flushing for all three Air Data Modules and thereafter not carrying out a leak check in the first week of November this year. Of course the paperwork was altered to reflect that the leak check was done, except no leak check equipment exists in Nepal!!
The holy triad is completed by the finance head (Chinese!) who changes per diems, allowances , salaries at will in violation of company policies and contracts. He is of course ably supported by the local clueless HR teams. The salaries are never on time with some excuse or the other being given every month. I don't even want to get started on the safety department which is filled with morons who dont have the foggiest idea what safety or an SMS is. Their function is to find reasons to dock a pilots' pay.
I don't know if this is an attitude problem or the company's reaction to a serious financial crunch. I went on my block ff and never looked back. The local regulator is powerless and several pilots have taken the company to court for serious contractual violations. More than half the management positions in flight operations are vacant and the operations continue on autopilot. Recently the aircraft diverted on the outbound leg as well as the inbound leg. With no crew available, the crew were made to operate for 19 hours... FDTL being busted on a routine basis. The latest is first officers being forced to share hotel rooms!
So in short, RUN IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION, THIS IS A CHINESE AIRLINE AND NOT A NEPAL AIRLINE. COME AT YOUR OWN PERIL IF YOU WANT:
1) YOUR CONTRACT VIOLATED
2) YOUR PAY STOPPED
3) FLY BEYOND YOUR FDTL
4) FLY A POORLY MAINTAINED AIRPLANE
5) BE DICTATED TO BY A BUNCH OF CHINESE MORONS WHO HAVE NO CLUE OF AVIATION
All those of you who didnt get hired, count yourself lucky. All those of you who are thinking of applying, think not twice, but a hundred times. Some pilots who were supposed to join have already backed out.
The country is beautiful, the locals are nice... But make no mistake, the Chinese will make your life miserable. You are better off at Korean air, at least they stick to their contracts and dont stop your pay!!
Happy landings!!

OMG 666
Omg 666...have we had a bad experience?
Thanks for your frank evaluation of the Airline I'd like to apply to.
Check my credentials but prior to your rant I was really keen to apply to HA as an A320 Capt.
I have over 13,000 hours, 2300 A320 Command and was looking forward to new adventures approaching my senior years and broad experience.
Do you strongly feel that the "new" airline may not take off?
Anyone else out there with strong opinions would love to hear..!
Otherwise I'm very available for new beginnings'
Kind regs,
M23

Does it matter if you have 13000 or 5000 hrs? It's a small airline...by you joining doesn't make it better...my opinion
