The ONLY thing this job is good for is spending a year getting your 500 PIC and going elsewhere

You need to make sure that amount is not taxed, otherwise, you can slash 30% off because you will be a resident of Japan and required to pay taxes on all of your income. JSJ has only a few upgrades every year with many guys that have been there 5 years still waiting with many giving up and leaving. You might also want to ask yourself why there are only one or two gaijin's working there, because there's probably a good reason for that. Japan is in a serious decline with conditions getting worse. The BS required to deal with the JCAB and with these LCC's is NOT worth it.

the problem with that Dom, is that these kind of get hours quick schemes often have rather "poor" conditions attached. These then become the norm and before we can wipe the manure from our eyes, the race to the bottom has been won by all of us.

Dom

JJ aren't looking for Captains - only expat F/O's, apparently they can't offer enough baubles to encourage the local F/O's to fly with them and/or remain with them.

Why??

JJ DID have around 12-15 gaijin Captains a couple of years ago - however a "purge towards purity" was undertaken and now there's a couple...if that.

What there IS is a number of court cases taken by Captains against JJ pending - including a couple of local Captains, very un japanese like!

Cheers.

Does anyone have more recent information?

I'm curious what a typical month would look like there.

Has the upgrade situation sorted itself out? I have heard that it takes about 3 years to become eligible for a captain seat.

I have also heard that overall it was a better place for a foreigner than Air Japan.

Nothing in the last year? There's more discussion going on at companies with 2-3 airplanes. Is there a better discussion somewhere about J* Japan?

I have the same questions. I'm thinking no news is good news, perhaps? I'm a little leery to listen to much on these forums, as there are no content pilots found on forums based on my experiences.

Essentially the above information is no longer correct.
Things have improved dramatically.

Probably not a lot of comments on here in recent years because there were very few foreign pilots, but that’s started to change rapidly.

I’d say most of the LWOP pilots from Jetstar are enjoying it here. Yeah some frustration at times but overall happy. Maybe easier to swallow if already used to Jetstar procedures.

Average take home, all up, maybe just shy of $US9000 after tax but if commuting you need to pay for a ticket home out of that, and still accomodate yourself in Japan also. (Under $1000 for rent and utilities if you stick near Narita)

How is it like for Europeans over there? Commuting contract 20ON/10OFF? (Long and expensive commute I suppose….) Training wise? (Apart from the extra 2 weeks for JCAB exams…)
Work atmosphere among expats/locals?
Any objective comments welcome!

Upgrade

Does any one know someone who was upgraded to captain in Jetstar Japan? I know that in Jetstar Vietnam upgrade works well usually after one year and half of you have more than 3000 flight hours on Airbus 320.
I’m thinking to apply for Jetstar japan because life in japan is much better than life in Vietnam, but i’d Like to know if anyone was upgraded in jetstar japan and how log did it take, thank you!

I hope you get a reply - even if just PM as info from any gaijin actually there seems non existant.

It might be called Jetstar but it they do things their own old JAL ways - and allowed to by Jetstar head management which doesn't say much about porn* management.
They have openly indicated they do not want gaijin pilots and only go through the charade of gaijin screening because forced to.
Along the same lines a gaijin upgrade - interesting western thought!

Things may have changed.

For interest a number of Japanese F/O's have left the chosen land - and J*J - and gone to J*P, a couple (maybe more by now) have been upgraded to Captain.

Good luck.

Im currently in china too.
Im wondering if they’ll ask accident incident letter from caac, some companies need that and its ridiculous knowing that its impossible for them to give it to us. My company could provide, but not the one from caac.
Few years in here and i have to fight for my documents. Good luck !

The May ask your:

Recent Employer Reference with contact details for referee from either your current or previous airline (your reference letter must include no accident / incident report and total hours flown with the airline).

This was asked me by the CAEPARC.
