Light plane crashes in Papua
Light plane crashes in Papua, killing 2 people
A light aircraft crashed Wednesday in Indonesia’s easternmost province of Papua, killing its American pilot and a passenger.
Transportation ministry spokesman Bambang Ervan said the U.S.-made Kodiak plane belongs to a private religious foundation, Advent, and was carrying seven people when it crashed while taking off from an airstrip.
The pilot, identified as US-citizen Robert Franklin, 63, and 34-year-old passenger Danis Kobak, were both killed
The five surviving passengers were taken to a nearby hospital, Ervan said.
The private airstrip is located 20 kilometers (12 miles) southwest of Jayapura, the provincial capital

Out of Doyo airstrip, not far from Sentani airfield.
Weather conditions were favourable. Not a mountain strip.
Incredibly experienced aviator in Paupa.
Very very sad day for aviators in this part of the world.
