Light plane crashes in Papua, killing 2 people
A light aircraft crashed Wednesday in Indonesia’s easternmost province of Papua, killing its American pilot and a passenger. Transportation ministry spokesman Bambang Ervan said the U.S.-made Kodiak plane belongs to a private religious foundation, Advent, and was carrying seven people when it crashed while taking off from an airstrip. The pilot, identified as US-citizen Robert Franklin, 63, and 34-year-old passenger Danis Kobak, were both killed The five surviving passengers were taken to a nearby hospital, Ervan said. Weather conditions were favourable. Not a mountain strip. Incredibly experienced aviator in Paupa. Very very sad day for aviators in this part of the world. |
