New Spice Jet COO

Beware of the new Spice Jet COO, Sanjiiv Kapoor. He will run your company into the ground, just like he did with GMG in Bangladesh. Then leave you hanging for salary that is owed to you. While he still collected his.

This man is a Cancer to Aviation.

Informed opinion?

NG Expat, thank you so much for your opinion. However, absence of any pertinent points of what he did or attempted to do or his direct or indirect involvement in an airlines insolvency makes it appear that you're grinding an axe vis-a-vis helping anyone.

I personally believe that Spice is one of the few airlines in India whos existence will keep IndiGo honest and that for one is an important reason why I believe the airline should prosper.

More than 20 captains have quit spice for better prospects(flyDubai and a couple to Qatar) in the past month or so. Some have quit without an offer in hand as well. I'm sure that is a better indicator of things than anything else.

Boeing 7xx....I have no axe to grind, believe me I have a very informed opinion of Mr. Kapoor. In August of 2011 he was made the CEO of GMG Airlines. He and his group had come to Dhaka, around June of 2011, at the request of GMG Ownership to do an overall audit of the Airline.

Once he took over things almost immediately started to go downhill. Outside of the first month in his new position, he was very rarely found anywhere near Dhaka. He was usually in London, the US or India and conducted business via email, text messages or phone. Some of his communications made one wonder just how truthful his resume was. In a meeting with Boeing Representatives, Boeing stated that X amount of training slots would be available per each aircraft ordered. Mr. Kapoor looked at those in attendance and stated that he was unaware that Aircraft Manufacturers would do that. Certainly someone who claims to have his background would surely know that fact.

GMG was advanced several million dollars by the Saudi Government to conduct a large portion of the Bangladesh Hajj Movement. That should have put GMG on a profitable track. But somehow the entire program became a giant loss. In some part due to Mr. Kapoor's lack of hands on management and total lack of knowledge of Operational Practices. In the end GMG ceased operation in March 2012. Somewhere I have a copy of a letter that was written to him from the Local Bangla Pilots who felt totally betrayed by Mr. Kapoor, they called him a cancer to Aviation in Bangladesh.

His resume looks great, but past performance shows something different. With the losses that Spice has mounted up of late, I would think that he has been brought in to possibly find a way to shut it down. I could be wrong, and I hope I am. A shut down of Spice Jet would be a terrible thing for Commercial Aviation in India.

All I am saying is watch out for this guy. He is bad bad news. If the original investors in Spice Jet were to return, I know of several people who would be happy to return and help turn the airline around.

Was Kapoor part of Regent Airline in Bangladesh? He was trying to get a 737 operation off the ground?
