Thai Lion Air

Thai Lion Air is advertising on climbto350 for B737 Captains and FO's. Does any one know the pay scale, schedule, terms, etc....?

With all of the negativity surrounding Lion Air regarding pay, training, safety, etc., I wonder how easy it will be for Thai Lion Air to recruit suitable pilots in Thailand? There are many other airline choices in Thailand and seems like more on the way.

Why fly for Thai Lion Air when Thai AirAsia or Nok Air or others could hire you (obviously correct type rating is required)? The conditions would have to be equal to or better than the alternatives given the competition for suitably trained/experienced pilots - right?

Paying dirt cheap might work in Indonesia when you have a lock on hiring/training, but perhaps does not work as well in other countries.

I doubt any of the major Thai carriers (Thai AirAsia, Nok, BKP or TG) employ non Thai nationals. Nok occasionally wet lease in aircraft but that's about it.

But where are they going to get their pilots from? Surely not many rated and experienced thai pilots around?

Who says they have to be rated and experienced? It's Lion Air we are talking about.

For sure the Thai DCA would prefer a local whatever experience he/she has before a rated expat.

"legal right to live and work in Thailand"

Does this means you must be a Thai resident or you may be an expat with a regular passport without restrictions?

Apart from Thai citizens I believe they mean any expat with already a Residence Permit. And I am not sure wether being married to a Thai citizen qualifies straight away to be employed by a Thai company so hold your horses!

Apart from a limited 100 residence permits issued annually (and the requirements are complex), there is no concept of Residence Permits in Thailand. Work permits and associated visas are issued with a job and these have to be renewed, typically annually, you leave that job and the work permit and visa are revoked.

One of the posters on this thread is a highly experienced expat commander on a least 2 aircraft types in service with the major carriers here with the right to reside in Thailand, yet he can't even get a look in within the Thai majors.

Yes, there are a few expats here but with due respect to them, the likes of U Airlines and Business Air are not exactly career defining moves.

None of the majors seem to suffer from any significant shortages and with ABAC, TFTA, CATC and IAC all running established ab initio programs the local demand seems to be fully satisfied (despite both TG and BKP losing mainly experienced F/Os to the Middle East carriers).

There may also be a requirement to advertise for local crews before putting forward a case to employ foreigners.

@Breakthesilence,
the legal definition is Thai Citizen however as Metro Man points out it may change if there is not enough Local crew. FO's will probably always be available
but Captain's with experience on type or Hours that qualify is another issue.
The work permit would be got by the sponsoring Company so if you got a look in
they would do that. The right to live can be covered by an Non immigrant Visa of which you have to be married to a local and have a family plus a local Bank account with a salary coming in and x THB in it to get one normally.
sorry for the long reply,

Work in Thailand

Rubbish:

I am not Thai by blood.
I am not married to a Thai lady. (though I have an ongoing relationship with a mother- daughter gig)
I have worked for several airlines in Thailand.
I have two bank accounts here.
I have the "right to work" in Thailand.
I have the right to live in Thailand, with regard to my immigration restrictions.

Sorry if I appear brash, or like a "Richard-head". However, it's all relative....you should meet my friends.

Not at All,
I worked in Thailand for 2 years back in 06 before getting Married as the Airline then could not get Local Captain's. I guess back then like you with a work permit arranged and given by the sponsoring Company right? I had the right to work there too
With that I got a local Bank account yep due to being paid in THB and having a WP. Still got it too like you right?
The CP of Thai Lion told me no Foreigner's even though the website states right to live and work and incidentally one of there Management was in my old Company. The info I got is what i was told so maybe its Rubbish maybe its not. Perhaps I should have said that first ey,
Anyway I am happily working elsewhere and don't particularly need or want to work for Thai Lion anyway.
