Cessna Carvan C208B rating.. Indonesia
hi all,
even though the caravan is under 12500 lb and doesn't need a type rating, DGCA regulation has a lot of grey areas regarding the caravan.
so i m hoping if anyone with practical experience here can shade some light what the procedures r for upgrade to PIC and initial training for C208B. thanks

Caravan rating Indonesia
all aircraft have own 'Type rating' in Indonesia even a small C172.This is the same in alot of countries.Basically 5 hours training on aircraft and 1 or 2 written 'Exams' which are a joke.the check flight with an examiner is done with you flying left hand seat and your rating will be stamped PIC.Only useful if you already have Indonesian licence(they are not issuing anymore to foreigners. The training may not be recognised by you own country/licence without a number of hours on type.
It's not that complicated really.
Everything under 12500 lbs/5700 kg is a class rating hence Single-engine land aeroplane for the C208B.
The 5 hours is a requirement for Part 135 training. Where issues come in is that it is just not common for people to get type training on aircraft unless they are being employed by an operator. Outside of established operators GA per say doesn't really exist.
Licences are still being issued but they have stopped issuing licences and ratings for pilots with less than 250 hours on type for aircraft with 30 seats or more.

Massey,
You really don't know what your talking about in regards to Indonesia. Licences are no longer being issued to people who don't have an Indonesian passport. A Caravan does require a specific rating in Indonesia as does every other aircraft. Just because your validation says SE Land doesn't mean you can just jump in to anything and take it for a ride.
The licence rules have changed here again so just let it settle down before rushing here for a job.

ground class
thanks for all the info guys.
is there anywhere where one can take initial ground class training for C208B ? my research so far suggests Suzi is the only place but i m not sure if they r interested in giving training for outsiders. i even heard they have C208B simulator which would be great if they r willing sell the service.
the thing is, there r these 3 Indonesian fresh graduates in my company and we r searching proper training facility to get them started flying our newly acquired C208B as F/O

Well seeing as locals hardly ever post on here I assumed the guy was a bule so a validation would be the only thing he can get with the new regs.
In regards to where you can get ground school? Better ask your ops manager or chief pilot. They would know alot more than most of us on here.

Type rating C208
Hi
The best place which is good and very reasonable price is in Johanessburgh. South Africa training provider called Simuflight has all the facilities and they are situated in Centurion with C208, B200, B1900 fixed base and full motion simulators.
Good Luck

Re: Cody 'a non indo just started at caravan operator'
Most probably will be flying on a validation.
Re:Stalker 'Turbo props need type rating'
All aircraft in Indo need 'Type rating'
On page 5 and 6 on my Indo licence is the type rating page as most of us would understand it,this is blank in mine.
on page 7 labelled pilot proficientcy check under collumn 'type ratings' is stamped C208b'
It gets a bit confusing but after a while in Indo you just go with the flow.
Most probably will be flying on a validation.

But for the section "Type", it only lists the specific multi-engine aircraft type I fly for the airline. The C172 is not listed here as I believe it comes under the class rating, 'Single Engine Land'.
On page 7 for the Pilot Proficiency Check, the initial issue for my C172 is listed as that (C172), but all subsequent renewals after that have been listed as 'Single Engine Land', as well as the specific aircraft type rating I fly for the airline.
I think this is where the confusion lies with what's written on the license. What's written is not consistent amongst various people's licenses, and even within the one license booklet itself, what's written for one PPC check varies from another. Welcome to Indonesia!!
