Reminds me of a story.
Delta used to operate L1011s. During engine start, the RR engines were quite notorious to huff and puff black smoke. Anyway, a passenger at the window by the wing saw the smoke and thought that they were on fire. In his panic, he ran to the door, and before the cabin attendants could stop him, opened it and deployed the slide. Thing is, the slide casing has to drop a bit (when the door opens) before it deploys. So, it took a little bit longer than this guy expected, which resulted in him jumping before the slide deployed. Ended up he landed on the tarmac, with the slide dropping on top of him, and all the other passengers evacuating... on top of him.
Don't know how true it is, but like the saying, don't let the truth come in the way of a good rumour.
