Long flights on 737/320

Range | Airbus, a leading aircraft manufacturer

Boeing: Commercial Airplanes - 737 - Range Charts

With SpiceJet announcing flights to Ghongzou and HK, I really wonder if it's worth it on a single isle airplane.

Although manufacturers do advertise this airplanes range as a bit too optimistic, do you guys think SpiceJet is going to use the 737 or some other airplane on the cards?

Having done Singapore on these airplanes there's always a payload restriction... Angry passengers who are more than willing to pay for extra luggage but the airplane can't accommodate...

I see indigo going in big into DXB which isnt exactly far...

Long flights on 737/320

Spicejet has only operates on a 737 and also they have placed orders for 737 only so spicejet not looking towards any twin isle planes for now but if they were an airbus fleet for single isle A321 is not bad considering payload

I heard they are planning to modify some of their planes for long haul operations, it is possible to have long flights using 737 but I doubt they will use their current one since there would be lots of restrictions. ANA uses the 737-700 frm Japan to Mumbai.

Yes they do. With additional fuel tanks.... In a all business class configuration.

Seat 38 pax

Don't suppose that's the business model for SJ... Flights longer than 4 hours on these airplanes always have a payload penalty.

Ask anyone who's done DEL-SIN or BOM-SIN on these types.

Correct. I've flown as a passenger on both sectors you have mentioned. Payload limit was 30 kg/pax and that's because the flights were less than half full.

Well, If the SJ planes are still set up as they were when I flew there they might have issues with payload. Most of the -800's were 24K engines. However, with a check written to Boeing 27K engine ratings are available. One of my old airlines regularly used 737-800 aircraft on US west coast to Hawaii and on US trans-con flights. Those flights are normally 4.5-6 hours depending on wind. As to the inside of the aircraft I have to say that my 6'2" frame did not enjoy riding more than an hour on a Spicejet aircraft. SJ may have to increase the seat pitch a little for these flights. As far as baggage is concerned I don't ever remember bulking out the bins on a 737, but Indians do tend to shop big when they travel so who knows. As a side note, I am sure that the pilots are very excited about their new flights and destinations. I look forward to maybe seeing some old friends out and about.

yes, if they see there is demand for that then they will do it, its not that they will stay with the low cost attitude forever
