On the spot "g", Indians are the largest group of expats in the world. They send more money home to their family's than any other country, but can't seem to open their own markets up. The country would benifit so much, but the politicians would lose the control and the piggy banks they live on now.

how many airlines in EU or US allow expat pilots ????
these countries do not have the local manpower available to meet the airlines requirements for pilots / engineers / cabin crew / flt ops / management.
Every nation in the world has priority to employ their own talent before they can hire foreigners.
im an Indian and an expat ...
go overseas as expats when they join SQ, QR, EY, CX, and EK

Exactly like India! As Indian you should know that.

Here’s the basic math as it relates to the Boeing 737 fleet. Jet is parking either 4 or 5 jets. With a crewing of 5 crews per aircraft, that translates to an excess of 20 to 25 captains.
Remember the reason why expats are needed? To fulfill a need until the local talent is qualified to assume their command in the jet. Well with the parking of jets and upgrading of F/Os to the left seat, that means the services of 20 to 25 expats are no longer required.
The majority of every expat in every airline realizes that… with the exception of carriers such as Emirates, Qatar, Et**ad. Look what happened to the JAL expat whalers… gone! There’s no definite determinable life expectancy of an expat at any foreign airline.

Indeed. My contract read ninety days notice (or pay in lieu thereof), and that's what I just got - plus sick leave. Jet treated me well for the nine months I got to deal with them.

Jet is feeling the pressure. It is in deep financial trouble and if they go in for the 100 aircraft order it would be financial suicide.I think Con Man Goyal has lost during the last few years. The senseless acquisition of Sahara , the expansion into Europe which is actually burning him....he is cutting back now.He will go the KF way if he doesn't clean up his airline.I would give him 3 years for survival if he takes correct action now.

re:sky dancer
I wouldnt be so quick to write off JET , S Dancer. Remember, he's been in Indian aviation for close to two decades and this is all he does ... to survive in the face of adversity is second nature to him and he's making all the right moves now ....
i think the govt. is slowly waking up from it's slumber .It's time they realize they need to support the local airlines to make them competitive globally and be healthy locally.
Wait and watch.
masalama.

a major point which most of the posts have missed is the depreciation of the Indian rupee vs the USD . All expats are paid in dollars also all lease cost are in dollars . The recent fall in the rupee was one of the decision for 9W to let go of the expats ...Don't get misled by all the anti expat sentiment ..the jet management loves the expats...and the chairman n goyal is still in awe of the white skin man...the decision to let go of the expats was taken by also an expat the CEO Nikos ( who is Greek ).
Also the expats are proving very expensive for Indian carriers e.g their taxes are paid by the airlines or the fact due to commuting contracts they (expats) work only 2/3rds of the year or the fact DGCA takes a long time to process their permits .

Statement not exactly true or complete. Most expats will fly their 1,000 hour limit. Many expats would remain on station, at their option, so they can fly 2 full months to avail themselves of overtime pay. Also it should be noted that many local skippers, before the austerity program, flew an average of 40 to 60 hours per month while their counterparts flew an average of 120 hours per month. That means you've got two people on full payroll doing the work of one employee... or twice the expense.
Its no secret that the Indian Government wants to see the private carrier disappear. They want Air India to dominate the Indian Skies. That said, they are solely responsible for the delay in FATAs and work permits. They will continue to use their authority to abuse their laws on their books to see that the private carriers go away.
