It is about time to unite for a cause. We have only been doing all the talking on this forum. Now we should and we WILL take it to the next level if anybody is interested to do so for a transparent recruitment process and an affordable one too. I've posted the address for all those who would like to write to Times Now. This is a request. Don't just sit there and laugh it off.

I reckon there may be a few on this forum who got through to the interview with the help of their contacts, but don't worry if you're reading this and chewing your nails already, I'm sure this wouldn't affect you.

I am in guys.
I didn't sit for the exam myself but will obviously like to stand against this kind of ...
Today it's our fellow aviators who appeared for the exam and are ripped of their money, tomorrow it can be anyone of us..!! And why only Spice..??? If we don't stand against it, others will also start the same crap and it will become a trend in aviation to reserve another 1-2 lakhs before any airline even consider you for an interview... They just cant exploit freshers like that. Even flight instructors at some places in India are paid as low as 5k-10k...
Of course there will be people who are ready to pay 25k again or even work at a salary lower than the current minimum standards. They may have their own personal reasons for that, but there has to be a minimum standard so that no one remains helpless..
Good Luck guys..

This is with regard to my previous post:

To all the cpl holders on here who haven't cleared the exam,

I can understand the disappointment and anguish each of you are going through. I must admit that I haven't written the exam myself, because I wasn't called in the first place. I have applied to spice 4 times thus far, and never got a call from them. I have been very disappointed about this, but today I am relieved because I too would have gone ahead, paid 25k and probably have flunked the exam too. On that note, I am not posting this for "myself", but for "all of us" and what "I think we should too". Clearly this scam has been going on way too long now, and it is my opinion that none of us has raised this issue to either the media or spice's higher authorities, out of fear of our own careers at stake. But the fear has to stop NOW, we can no longer afford to sit on our buttocks and let them take undue advantage of us.

Here's what I think we should do:

All of us, as many as possible (the more the better), need to write to Mr. Arnab Goswami of Times Now, who very effectively and efficiently covers the issue on his show. I am prepared to write to him myself, but 1,2, 10 or 20 people writing to him might not make a difference, and might easily be overturned and ignored. We need atleast 50+ cpl holders writing to him on the exact same issue, only then will it be given important notice. He very tactfully and cleverly handled the news about spice a few months ago on the "Garima Passi - fake pilot case" by even calling spice's CEO Mr. Neil Mills on the show and firing questions at him, which is why this is my best bet.

I know some of you might be skeptical of my idea for various reasons, but if WE can successfully pull this off, there's a good chance that spice might not only cancel their 25k fee for all their future exams, but also start calling more candidates for each attempt, hence being fair to all of us. Like I said earlier, the nonsense has to stop, and now is the time. There has to be a start to our protest and it's always better late than never. I personally don't think that standing outside their head office in gurgaon and staging is protest is going to do any good, they're probably going to shoo us all away, and it would be a total waste going all the way there, but that's just my opinion.

To all the guys on the forum reading this, please come forward and respond to this post of mine. If you want to accept my suggestion and go ahead with it, then that's great, otherwise we'll have to think of something else. But please respond, even if you have to turn down my suggestions then feel free to, but lack of responses would truly disappoint me. I know some of you might say "You haven't written the exam yourself so it's easy for you to comment", but like I said earlier, I am not doing this for "me", I am doing this for "us".

Looking forward to your responses, and people reading this can spread the word to other friend cpl holders of theirs (who are not on the forum), then that would be even better.
Here are some of the things we need to address when we write to Mr. Arnab Goswami of Times Now:

1) On what grounds is the spice exam 25k and the indigo exam 18k? Why can't airline exams be free of cost?
2) With reference to point no. 1, on what grounds did spice increase their fee from 20k to 25k in the recent months? Doesn't this indicate clear money making tactics?
3) With reference to point no. 1 and 2, after having paid so much for an exam, don't we have the right for more transparency and atleast know how much we have scored? (rather than just a pass/fail letter?)
4) On what grounds do spice and indigo call only a limited amount of candidates per attempt? There are close to 5000 unemployed cpl holders in india, why can't everyone be given a fair chance and why can't everyone who applies get a call letter?
5) Why can't spice and indigo have exams in multiple centres across the country rather than just Delhi and Gurgaon? India is a big enough country as it is!
6) Why do candidates have to pay for their own type rating if they get selected? Airlines in India are the only ones in the world who makes their candidates sponsor their own type rating. We have already spent 20-25 lacs for our cpl training, and having to spend another 15-20 lacs on our type rating is bringing alot of us under huge financial difficulties. In all righteousness, shouldn't an airline sponsor the type rating for the candidates it has selected?

These are just some of my ideas we can use. I would prefer writing to them by e-mail rather than by post though. Does anyone on here have Times Now's e-mail address?

guess what?? i just knew one friend of mine who appeared for the spicejet exam and he cleared...........but it was not the first time he appeared , it was his second attempt.....well but i do know one thing that he prepared well in advance and went for airline preparation classes for about 6 months.......so i think hard work paid off.

well as for the fees...its truly criminal to charge 25000 for a written exam .
IndiGo does not charge for the exam.....its CAE who charges... and in fact the charge is not for the written exam ( its free) but for the CASS ( one whole day of different kinds of test conducted by professionals)..and BTW , CAE charges the same all over the world.

yes ..in my personal view not all the selections at spice are on merit........but i believe there is space for merit though limited..but one needs to deserve as well.

though i was not a part of this exam.but i still feel its unfortunate and injustice to all my fellow pilots

I am one of the guys who got called for the written exam...Why did i get called ???? Ans..I presume because i have 400 hrs of instructional flying and have cleared all my dgca atpl papers and orals... i for one have absolutely no “jugaad “; in spicejet

I am one of the guys who cleared the written....How did i do it???? Ans ..I worked bloody hard at it ...worked day in and night ...and frankly saying the paper was not a tough nut to crack..it was lets say “dgca atpl standards”...slightly tougher than the indigo exams..

Guys complaining ,crying ,playing the anna hazare card is not at all an alternative to studying hard and coming up on merit ... i know at least six other guys who have cleared absolutely on merit
If **** happens, face it with a strong heart...try harder the next time..i too have been rejected by indigo in the interview stage...

With 5000 jobless cpl holders floating around its obvious that airline are looking for pilots who have something more than the standard (250 hr + CPL)...

steamhammer - It isn't over till it's over. Congratulations and you must be the very few who got through on merit. Where were you all this while. When you know that you've passed, you suddenly decide not to go against the system. It doesn't work that way. Do you justify the fact that 25000 rupees is a reasonable fee for a few pieces of paper they hand out to 384 candidates??

We're giving it back to them for once and for all. I really hope Times Now and Arnab Goswami takes it from there. We need a minimum of 20-25 emails. The rest will be echoed. This should work. We must win at the end of the day. There is no room for looting of money in the form of exam fee from candidates who have already spent 25-30 lacs for their training.

As Aroumika mentioned, please put these questions across to them :

1) Why does SpiceJet charge an exorbitant fee of Rs.25000 per candidate for a written exam, when other airlines don't charge a single penny? To make things worse, candidates were made to wait two hours prior to the exam.

2) With reference to point no.1, on what grounds did SpiceJet increase their fee from Rs.20000 in 2011 to Rs.25000 in January 2012. Doesn't this indicate clear money making tactics?

3) Although a clear case of nepotism exists, it cannot be proven by us.

4) Many candidates do not get invited for the exam even when they have sent their CVs to the HR department nearly 4-5 times.

You may add whatever you feel like to the questions posted above.

Please make this happen. Together, we can crush this money-making system.

@steamhammer
it's funny you say that, i'm quite sure if by chance you failed it too, you would have been singing our tune as well

there are 5000 unemployed cpl holders in the country, and sure as you said not all of them might be deserving and hard-working, but not all 5000 of us are the same, there's quite a few of us who are very deserving indeed, certainly more deserving than those who get through by means of influence, nepotism and "jugaad", i'm sure you would agree?

on a good note, congrats to you, well done! but this protest is for those who have worked hard enough to deserve to be in some airline by now and frankly i don't see why you would have a problem with that. for how much longer are we supposed to sit around jobless with an indian cpl with a deadline of just 5 years of its validity?

you probably might disagree with everything i just said or might not have something nice to say back at me, but i'm going to choose not to pay attention to it so don't expect a reply from me, over and out

Not really worth it.

1) On what grounds is the spice exam 25k and the indigo exam 18k? Why can't airline exams be free of cost?

No clue about spice jet but IndiGo doesn't take the money CAE does as mentioned before.

2) With reference to point no. 1, on what grounds did spice increase their fee from 20k to 25k in the recent months? Doesn't this indicate clear money making tactics?

Spot on.

3) With reference to point no. 1 and 2, after having paid so much for an exam, don't we have the right for more transparency and atleast know how much we have scored? (rather than just a pass/fail letter?)

That's company policy you can't dictate what they choose to tell or not tell you.. They're not forcing you to give the examination.

4) On what grounds do spice and indigo call only a limited amount of candidates per attempt? There are close to 5000 unemployed cpl holders in india, why can't everyone be given a fair chance and why can't everyone who applies get a call letter?

On grounds of limited place to conduct examinations is what they'll say.

5) Why can't spice and indigo have exams in multiple centres across the country rather than just Delhi and Gurgaon? India is a big enough country as it is!

Come on even the Times Now guy won't entertain such a question. Again, you don't get to dictate where, when they conduct the examinations.

True, but most (not all) countries require a hell load of hours before you get selected. So, let's not talk about righteousness here. And you have to remember the fact that the Airlines are running a business and not a charity. It's a simple demand vs supply case.

You may send your email to the addresses I've mentioned. Both to Headlines Today and Times Now. Please put your phone numbers. If you do not wish to disclose your name to the media, it is absolutely fine.

Aviatorrr - I agree some of the questions are not meant to be. Lets put that aside.

SpiceJet never forced the candidates to appear for the exam. But the same candidates were willing to take part in it - at what cost?????

So they didn't force the candidates to sit for the exam - You tell me, what choice does a jobless CPL holder have, rather than sitting at home for 2 years doing absolutely nothing, when IndiGo has suddenly stopped hiring, Jet Airways has hundreds of pilots waiting in line, Go Air doesn't even appear on our radars and the entire nation is aware of Air India and KFA struggling to stay afloat. Don't you think hundreds of CPL holders break their heads on giving this exam only because this is their only chance? And a chance that goes begging in the end owing to 80% nepotism and 20% merit (that's what I think).

So all you SpiceJet loyalists can stay away from this debate for the time being.

Exactly, As I said the way Spice Jet is looting candidates is appalling. 25,000 * 300 students = 75 Lakhs which for a small school to give examinations and a photocopy of a question paper is simply not worth it. And influential people getting in at 80% "jugaad" 20% merit is really sad to top it all of. In my opinion, if you get enough support this could lead to something but then there won't be a lot of people supporting it..

Why Not Publish An OPEN LETTER In TOI?

We could all publish an open letter in TOI, this will ensure everybody reads it and then no news channel would be able to ignore us.

4) On what grounds do spice and indigo call only a limited amount of candidates per attempt? There are close to 5000 unemployed cpl holders in india, why can't everyone be given a fair chance and why can't everyone who applies get a call letter?
5) Why can't spice and indigo have exams in multiple centres across the country rather than just Delhi and Gurgaon? India is a big enough country as it is!

In all righteousness, shouldn't an airline sponsor the type rating for the candidates it has selected?
We can add to this list:

7) Why was there a delay of over 2.5 hours to start the exam?
8) If we pay 25K the least we can expect is a decent quality Question Paper both in terms of the paper quality and the questions. There were 8 questions repeated with a few questions having insufficeient data.
9) Why was there no OMR answer sheet? The answers could easily have been changed later on in secret.
10) Why was the result declared so late, after 28 days? There were just 350 people taking the test..even if you check only 35 papers in a day, it should take only 10 days.
11) Why was a secret exam conducted just three days before the public exam. One was probably held after it too on 5/6 Feb (needs verification)
12) What is the passing criteria exactly for both Spice and Indigo?
13) I have heard rumours that bribes are being accepted in all the airlines for pilot recruitment. This needs to be investigated too.

We need to put our foot down..its now or never..no more are we going to be exploited.

All the people who made it, how many toatal hours of flying did you hve?

If everyone has over 400 hrs then the recruitment is obviously biased towards them.

Please dont tell us that you worked your asses off for this exam...most of us on this forum did that too.. you aint special, just that you cleared the written and we didnt..and wait there is still the interview..so dont count your chickens yet.

it's 4.30 in the morning and i just e-mailed mr. arnab goswami, pretty huge letter i might add! i have also added that he can expected more complaints from other cpl holders very shortly, so i am asking each one of you again to please please do your part otherwise this whole thing will be useless. i've done my part, it's time to do yours, we need a mass protest from our side otherwise it's not going to work, later!

P.S. - for those who haven't been able to agree with all the points i've posted, we're all different individuals and think differently so no hard feelings at all, i'm just doing my part towards what i think is plain, gross injustice, and i'd rather do something about it than be helpless and do nothing at all

Of course nobody if forcing anyone to pay 25k and sit for the exam.
But they charge such huge sum because, as I mentioned earlier, there will be guys/girls who are willing to pay and bend to their money making tactics... And this is simply because to some, 25k might mean nothing big whereas others may have their personal reasons and can't afford to let go on an opportunity of employment. And trust me mate the second lot of these guys appearing can't afford to blow this and thus study very hard. And spice taking advantage of their situation is a very shameful act on their part.
Do you think they would be charging the candidates 25k if everyone of us boycott them in the future. You know it, I know it and the worst part is they know it as well that it's not possible(for everyone)...
I just hope we are not helpless in the future...
