Another nail in the coffin for AI?

AI were told they do not meet the" Minimum Joining Conditions". Nothing to do with the standards. There are airlines in *A who are equal if not worse than AI.

It is a big blow to AI. They were really banking on joining *A and increasing their revenues. But then again joining an alliance does only a small part in enhancing revenues. There are a lot of things in AI that need to change for its Turn around plan to work.

NEW DELHI, India - July 31st, 2011 - The member airlines of the Star Alliance network and Air India have jointly concluded that the integration of Air India into the global airline alliance will be suspended. This is due to the fact that Air India has not met the minimum joining conditions that were contractually agreed in December 2007.
Following a recent review of the status of Air India's application at a meeting held between the Indian Ministry for Civil Aviation, Star Alliance CEO, Jaan Albrecht and the Air India CMD, Arvind Jadhav, the decision to suspend has received subsequent confirmation by the Star Alliance Chief Executive Board.
Star Alliance CEO, Jaan Albrecht said: "With the collective decision to put the integration efforts on hold today we aim to contribute to Air India's flexibility to concentrate on its ongoing strategic reorientation. In this process our member carriers will continue to provide assistance to Air India wherever required."
Existing bilateral relationships with Star Alliance member airlines are not affected by this decision, which also leaves room to discuss a potential Alliance membership at a future stage, if deemed appropriate by both parties.

Unless AI does something drastic to change its current situation its bye bye *A and also it would be bye bye Indian for *A as well. The Govt would at no cost allow another Pvt airline to be past of *A in the near future

Jet Airways would love to grab it. In fact one of the reasons why AI didn't make it was because *A told AI that they would be allowed to join only if the Govt of India gave an undertaking that Jet Air would be allowed to join *A immediately after AIs induction. The Minister of civil aviation obviously did not accept to this.

Under the current circumstances it looks extremely unlikely that the Indian Govt. would allow any Indian carrier to become a part of *A in the near future. With the opposition parties in India blaming the Govt for giving up AIs profitable routes for Pvt carriers the last thing the Govt would want right now is Jet air replacing AI in *A.

They are a laughing stock to some, a golden goose to some and something else to someone else. But the point here is that Jet can work all it wants with LH, *A or any other carrier that it wants to but ultimately they cannot join an alliance or enter a code share with another airline unless the Government of India gives a clearance.

Anybody who messes with an Indian bureaucrats ego will have a tough time as long as he/she stays in power. AI has become a national phenomena lately with the Prime Minister himself getting involved. Everybody is going to try and save their a**** now and for that reason they will try to block Pvt carriers and promote AI instead. The latest of such moves was to withdraw the Muscat rights that were given to Indigo for the sake of AI

Yes, and I already hear IndiGo are considering plans along the lines of Air Asia to get around this action by the Indian Government....

Just take a look at Air Asia, how many AOC's do they have? Their aircraft are flagged in several countries... But to the passenger operate as one.

Well thats the problem. Those joyful days where Pvt airlines sent a bag full of dough to Mr. praful patel and got what ever they wanted are behind us. Nobody wants to take blame for the AI debacle so now everybody loves AI and are willing to do anything to "SAVE AIR INDIA". Even the Prime Minister who has turned a blind eye to AI after his famous "we will turn around air india" speach in 2009 is finally showing some interest now. The current Minister of Civil Aviation Mr. Ravi is also known as the Minister of Air India and since he has taken charge of the Civil Aviation ministry the foreign and Pvt carriers haven't had the usual gala time that they are used to when Praful Patel was around (good for him he got promoted and is now on a mission to bring other PSUs to AIs condition).

So basically this new drama of "I love Air India" which the Govt is portraying will last for a while. Or maybe this time it isn't a drama.. who knows?

If *A didn't accepted AI...then Sky will..if not then 1world will.....does anyone have limitations on invitations?
