So..........no more SYD and DPS

A recent press release

06 APRIL 2008 SUMMER SCHEDULE IMPROVES CONNECTIVITY TO KEY DESTINATIONS

Effective 1st June 2008, Royal Brunei Airlines will introduce its enhanced Summer schedule that incorporates improved timings, connections and frequencies.

The Summer schedule will strengthen the overall network by introducing changes that improve accessibility to Brunei Darussalam from Regional and International destinations. Changes include increased flight frequencies to key destinations, convenient timings and better connections. To implement these changes RBA will suspend Sydney and Bali flights from 31st May.

Chief Executive Officer Ray Sayer said, "Although leaving a destination is never an easy decision, as regional competition increases it is necessary for RBA to make these schedule changes that improve RBA's product and strengthen the airline¿s core network."

For ticketed passengers who are affected by the Sydney and Bali flight suspensions in the summer schedule, Royal Brunei Airlines will offer either a full refund of their tickets or the option to be re-accommodated on other carriers.

For more information passengers should call RBA Reservations offices at 2212222 or 3333737.

Hmmm....I heard something about suspensions being announced at different times sooo when do we hear about PVG and SGN.
Bear in mind they are offering special "farewell shanghai" fares on their website!!

RBA control the allocation of check in counters at BWN, not the DCA

Thus far they have been able to make the going tough for newcomers and no doubt will in the future - by that i mean access to the market place rather than providing a better product.

4Syl,

Although your post was tongue in check, it was factual with many points raised that rba pilots relate to. Therefore why did you delete it?
Surely it was not because one strange poster asked you to delete it. I refer to the poster as strange because from memory he signed up to PPrune in 2001 and his only post in the last 7 years was to recommend you deleted your post.

Re submit your post. It was a good read.

The education allowance is a step in the right direction, but is it a bit too little too late?

The salary and many allowances in rba are, as the education allowance, about 20 years out of date.

Rba’s attitude towards its pilot staff is a little bewildering. They have treated pilots with much disregard and intimidation for many years with the attitude of, if you don’t like it f@ck off. Yet at the same time bonding pilots for two to three times the normal bond total (especially considering no circuits have been done) yet are reluctant and even anti if any pilot wants to leave. Especially considering the B777s are not arriving now.

They have even sent members of the fleet office to overseas airlines recruitment departments to try and reverse their decision to employ a pilot when they resign from rba. Many have had to lie to rba as to which airline they are moving to to ensure they dont have their employment offer revoke.

Is it incompetence, the fact they are unable to make a decision, or intentional that any pay or allowance increase takes so many years to materialise, if at all. There has been talk of the 20 year out of date, salary and other allowances to be increased that never happens. Every month and every year it is put off, or quoted as under review, waiting for the board’s decision, is a saving to rba.

I also question the depth of the latest assessment as to the safety of its crews concerns, western crews in particular, in jed. No other hotel has the reported vehicles with heavy machine guns and armed guards as is the norm in jed nowadays.

I assume they mean it is safe for its line pilots but not for management pilots who will not be rostered there. Their time is too valuable to be sitting around in a hotel in jed for 3 or 4 days at a time. Of course the same is not applicable to sitting around in SYD or BNE on the longer layovers.

Other airlines packages are better and still increasing to crew their expanding airlines, anyone still planning on sticking it out with rba?

JED should be locals only n/s and since there is a good stockpile of them ain't to much trouble on the part of roster staff to arrange.

Security is really slack at the present hotel

If the choice is between Thailand and RBA, not much to choose on the pay package, as for life style stay where you are.

767 going?

icom - what's the bit about "767 going"?

Is there more to the schedule changes than meets the eyes?

The 767 fleet to be shut down.

Ah, a very clever management plan is underway.

RBA has at last decided to do away with that bully, the 767 Fleet Manager.

Ah, but cant admit to the years that he was allowed to get away with it, has ruined the careers of so many, cost the company thousands retraining those that left (due to his actions) to mention just a few

Better to get rid of the whole fleet, then he no got a position La, and can be moved sideways out of harms way.

The Brunei way, so we are told.

The Brunei way eh? So it has nothing to do with the revenue earned by the 767s being barely sufficient to meet the lease fees? The seven year leases run out soon: it would make no economic sense to renew them and there are no more assets left to sell off...

if the 767 leases expire soon then they will have no plane to fly lhr, per, bne, akl, jed etc...........

i think i have just answered my own question - BYE BYE to the above cities,

OR, do i see a bundle of wet-leased A310s, 757s, 767s etc !!??!

Obviously RBA management have been investigating the solution to all their problems that I detailed in post 110, and have at last come to their senses. I dally await the arrival of my large consultancy cheque!
