SIA hiring foreign cadets?

Hey all,
It is my understanding that SIA advertised for Cadet Pilots in Hong Kong. On their website they did not specify any nationality requierments for this position, does that imply that the whole world is welcome to apply ? I assume it's only for the Chinese, but that fact that they did not specify a nationality makes me think it is open to all.
If it is only for Chinese people, why did SIA specifically target them for their Co-Pilot and Cadet Pilot programmes (i.e. why not other nationalities)?
Thanx,
guybrush

Don't know about the present selection round but I do know at least one foreign guy having been taken as expat as cadet. He had some considerable experience as airline pilot though. He's South African and his father also flies for SQ.

It's official, non-Singaporeans can now apply. However the fact that the advertisement was posted in the SCMP on 6 May 2006 probably suggests that they are looking for Chinese, or at least people familiar with the cultural nuances of this part of the world.

Of course the requirements do not specifically state Chinese only (imagine the uproar if that were the case). So actually there's nothing stopping anyone from applying.

The website reference is here:

And just in case SIA change their mind and remove the posting, here it is for posterity:

Thanx guys! That's really helpful. I will apply, although I know my chances are practically nill, but what do I have to loose!

Thermal Image, thanks for the post. You didn't have to post the info as I already knew about (that's the reason I posted in the first place!), but thanks anyway.

Cheerio,

OK, I will be the one to give a good answer this time. Just before the sovereignty handover of Hong Kong from Britian to China back in 1997, Singapore has great interest to take on all professional people from Hong Kong who feel uncertainty with their future there. As the result, Singapore immigration department opens up a special migration scheme for Hong Kong ID card holders (not necessary Chinese) since they believe the two places share similar culture. I know many licenced aircraft maintence engineers from HK are now working in Singapore. Hope I have answered your question although it may cause some disappointment.
