Should have used KE!

Hard to say how long it'll last, however, if previous strikes are anything to go by, it shouldn't be too long before the government steps in and takes the firing squad to the union leaders...

OZ strike has now entered the 5th day...

Mostly domestic and cargo cancellations - only 1 international cancelation (ICN-SYD).

Rumours are that unionized KE pilots will not fly cargo flights commencing SAT 23rd. Some domestic flights may also be affected.

Too many demands (78 in total) ranging from provision of golf clubs at overseas stations, no requirement for English testing, extension of retirement age (58) and 17% reduction in flying hours / year.

Lets see who gives in first. Tough time for us foreigners here, holding the fort together with the local non-unionized pilots.

main issue for strike

I feel Sorry for your situation, epreye .

It looks like that the strike will keep going on for a while.

but the main issue is not english test and golf club - do you really believe test and golf club could be a problem in labor agreement? *_*; -

The issues are 1000 hr of flight time per a year including dead heading and minimum 2 years contract after age 54 retirement. Currently OZ insist 1200hr exclude dead heading and no negotiation with union for after retirement contract term.

Eventhough most of OZ retired pilots makes a year or less period contract to age 60 unless he has no problem of white card.

I wonder How you, flyguykore, can say "holding the fort together with the local non-unionized pilots."

I know you guys spend tough time in here but it is not a fault of pilot union members.

this is 2004 labor agreement , pilot unoin did their best to negotiate with company last 10 months. but company has just ignored them and trying to break pilot's union at all cost.

please, give a generous look for their situation.

Well, the strike is now in day 7.

manincrz2937, if you read my post carefully, I clearly did not state that the main issues were golf clubs and English testing.

and...

Directly from OZ "
Union pilots that are not participating in the strike, non-union pilots, and foreign pilots are doing their best to operate as many flights as possible, but please acknowledge that some domestic flights will have to be canceled due to the lack of pilots."

Foreigners and locals not participating in the strike ARE holding the place together. How is it that all 107 international flights can operate when around 300 pilots are on strike?

If you say so.......

Well....

If I misunderstood you, I'm sorry.

Union pilot are having hard time to fight with media not company.

As you know, Company manipulate small newspapers by money, they spread unfair point of view to people.

It was a kind of allegic reaction.

Unfortunately, the English is not debatable. This is a requirement by IACO and MUST be mandated by 2008. ALL crews (including those crews where English is your mother tongue) have to take it.

Ask the crew of KE that got a free F-15 escort to CYXY if English is a requirement.

As for the golf clubs............

It's not true.

Don't get confused,

What they asking about english test is not about ICAO TEST.

Company require TOEIC for test fo internal upgrade.

the internal upgrade means ....Well....How can I explain....Hmmmm

They made some kind of 'senior first officer' or 'senior captain' rule. The funny thing is there are no seniority which company gave to pilot until now. The board member abuse there power to control pilot. One of the condition to be a 'senior' F/O or Captain is TOEIC test. Company ask to pass TOEIC test when pilot take so-called 'senior' F/O or 'senior' captain. But they never ask english test in upgrade F/O to Captain.

Isn't it funny?

And you know what?

most ex-military pilot can be a captain in 4 years from the joining day of company.
but most of civil trained pilot still in F/O for more than a decade from joining the day.

Last november , 170 ex-mil(most of them were ex-airforce academy pilot which is the same with vice president and director of flight operation department) pilot leave pilot's union because they don't like the discussion of 'seniority' itself.

Isn't it right to ask English test when you upgrade to be a captain than to be a 'senior' F/O or 'senior' Captain.

so Union ask to remove timewasting TOEIC and wait for a ICAO Test.

but the company told to newspaper that 'pilot doesn't want to take english test'

That is the behind story.

You don't have to believe everything on newspaper (especially and sadly true in korea) . Newspaper just want to sell the paper than spread the fact.

main demand of pilot's union is reducing flight time to 1000hrs include positioning time (usually 300hrs per a year in asiana, it means you should spend 300hrs in a/c per a year, total time you spend in a/c is 1300hrs)

Retirement age 57( 55 in current)
but most of the pilot works to 60 under less than 1 year contract
renewal If they obey what company ask and leave any activity from union.
