Help Needed!!

Hi there,

Would need some answers or maybe advise for some questions:

1.If I have obtained a CPL and a frozen ATPL privately and then do my type rating, also privately, will it be able to hand me a job in an airline?

I was recently on a MAS flight from Kuching to Johor Bahru,so my questions are:

1.What is the normal cruising height and speed of this flight?
2.Is the landing in Johor Bahru done manually or using the autopilot?
3.If it is done by autopilot, will the pilot set the throttle to auto or will he control the throttle manually to maintain approach speed while the autopilot lands the aircraft?
4.If there were to be a diversion made by aircraft arriving in Kuching Airport, which is the alternate airport?

I'm sure quite number of them out there will be able to answer these questions and I'm hoping for them to help me out. Thanks again.

and the answers are:
1. yes and no. it will help you get a job with an airline, but it wont guarantee you a job. but it's better if you apply with a CPL/IR already in hand. it'll save the airline time and money.
------------------------------------------------

and the rest:[i'm guessing the plane is a 737] (bare in mind i don't fly a 737, just from the knowledge i have gained in my time with the airlines)

1. the height would be Flight level 300- which is equilavent to about 30'000 ft
or Flight level 320, ~ 32'000ft - following the semicircular rule, for flight heading west. the best typical altitude for 737 is about 30'000~33'000ft. and the speed would be mach 0.79, which i think is the best typical crusing speed, or it might even be the Vmo of the a/c.. so i'm not too sure. bare in mind i don't fly a 737, so this is pretty much from what i've seen or heard or read before.

2. the 737 does not have an autoland feature (which is usually on the bigger jets). so, the autopilot is used all the way along the approach until maybe about 1000~500 feet, then manual flying will be done until landing.

3. well, i'm not too sure, about this one. never read a 737 SOP before, so i have no idea.

4. ah.. this is an easy one. if they had to divert from kch, the they'd probably go to sibu, bintulu, or miri... all these airfields are very near kuching.

so whats my score????

answering some of the questions if i may, actually u'd be surprised 737's are certified for autoland.... don't know for that particular 734 that you were in GHOSTRIDER, depends on the aircraft.

as for the autothrottle part, yes it's usually kept ON until u take over flying manually from the autopilot as said by cav-not-ok. Even when you take over, you keep the A/T in armed mode in case of a G/A.
