2 Simple Ways to Improve Moral in SIA
1. Allow 1 or 2 trip/flight Requests per Roster month
Virgin Atlantic do so and look how happy these guys are in the partner airline !!
2. Cut out split stby duty downroute.
SIA own your lives but there's no need to rub salt in your wounds
These simple measures would give a little control over your lifestyle and really boost morale.
one of the boggest downers is the feeling you guys present of having absolutely no control over your lives......real bummer.
this would cost bu***r all compared to what it would achieve.
cant believe alpa-s hasnt put this forward at all or are they too money orientated.
saving senior pilot salary scales above $ 16.5K/mth was a disgrace and in complete contradiction of efficiency savings. absolute betrayal to the rest of you all and a disgusting achievment by your so called representative body.DISGRACEFUL.

I didn't realise there was a "moral" issue in SQ 
If you are talking about morale - do you really believe SQ (or any other Asian employer) is going to give their staff any control over how their work schedule is allocated.
You are obviously new to the area.
Good Luck - try not to think about things such as morale, controlling your work schedule, changing company procedures (even if you believe it will benefit the company), etc. In Asia, you are expected to simply obey your Master and not think.
If you think I'm being tongue-in-cheek, ask around amongst guys who have been there more than about 4 or 5 years.

When you get a letter begining "It has been decided........" regarding contract conditions after only a week or so in SIA???
When rostering tell you " you shouldn't use the rules to your advantage Capt......" when minimum rest was needed???
When your Training Captain tells you "Any questions from you will indicate a lack of knowlege......."?????
When an SIP yells at a trainee " I WILL TELL YOU HOW IT IS DONE ON MY AIRCRAFT, AND YOUR CRM SKILLS NEED A REVIEW!!!!!!!"
There is a clue that you are in a different place from home.
Having said all that there are, in small and regrettably reducing numbers some of the smartest people around in Flt Ops, local and expat, but also some of the biggest dunces as well.
SIA is in the business of making money, anything else is secondary to the aim, all staff to the system are telephone numbers that are rung to do the task of making money.
The task is to enjoy what you can of the process.
Still miss the place after 2 years in "retirement", actually have become a PPS Pax as I travel on them 6-8 times a year to Simulator tasks, so from an old hand it's not all bad, just always could have been and could be a better place.
