All depends where you are coming from - from the Middle East the patterns are easy - from Europe and the USA they look hard - its all a matter of perspective, I think, but they don't lend themselves to commuting.

Just a quick question? When someone sends in an application for the B777 position based in SIN by email, how long does it take before SIA respond?

Is no news good news or does it mean they are not interested? Do they reply by snail mail (surface) or by email?

Yes - I've put in an application about 3 weeks ago but have heard nothing!

Thanks for any 'real' answers.

I submitted an app 2 mos ago - no word either e-mail or anything. I am very qualified (51, 11,000 hrs, 767 Capt. w/ 4000 hrs pic on 767, currently with US major airline ). Guess they're in no hurry.

Hi Bkmk and others.

TT 12000, Narrow body command of 5000. No wide body command! Not as much experience as kkpilot.
I just applied and was wondering how they reply and what time scale is involved.

I've tried to send the application using their email address on the web site but it keeps getting returned to me, any one out there having the same probs ? Is there another email address one could use ?

Word is"don't panic"

A couple of us down Oz way applied about 3 months ago and still no reply.Similar experience to others posting here,however no wide body time which they apparently give the big Thumbs up.

Word from our informants on the inside is that is not unusual at the moment,and our applications are still being considered.

Hi,
Does anybody have any idea about the training bounds?
If I send an application to SIA will they also consider it to the cargo division or I need to apply a second time?
14,000+ TT, dc-10, md-11, b737 series PIC experience... and currently flying for a bankrupt airline.

You need to apply for the SIA positions seperately. I have found them to be very busy and it wouldn't necessarily occur to them to consider you for Cargo if you have only applied for main-line. In fact it would almost definitely not happen

I have known them to have problems with e-mail. Particularly when responding to you. So I "couriered" my application. It took one day to get to Sing from UK and e-mail response within one day with an interview date.

Beware though, if you don't hear from them give them a ring. If the e-mail reply goes astray they might just think you're not interested.

No problem Sgt pepper. It's pretty hefty (the bond).

It's approx £47,000 sterling, reducing over 5 year bond period. Also, you have to deposit a bank guarantee of £19,000 before you start and receive it back at the end of your contract!

If you can take all that then let me know if you want any further information.

You do not have to actually put any money down as deposit if you organise things properly from UK before you leave. Provided you get a bank guarantee say against value of your house and provided the Bank guaranteeing it also has a branch in Singapore that is all that is required. It will of course involve fees but that will happen In Singapore if you go to DBS Bank who are familiar with this SQ business. They charge about S1850 for the paperwork and only pay you about 1% interest so it pays not to take money to Singapore other than the vast amount you will need to take to cover you until on line which will take between 4 and 5 months!! You could try DBS Bank in London if all fails. Standard Chartered is a good one too in UK

I hope you are not trying to run a family on what SQ Cargo are paying?? Also Bond run from 5 years from final line check.

PS: I am a little worried about your views about the salary. If I read it correctly. Following final line check it\'s $9,000/month salary, $3000 re-location allowance and I have worked on 50 hours/month @ $60/hour= a further $3000. Grand total excluding duty pay and any bonusses = $15,000. Is this not enough to live on in Sing? How much tax would I pay? If you have any idea please let me know.

O'N Send me a PM with tel no and I will call you with all details although I am not privy to SQ Cargo finer points of contract as I am mainline. All I know is that everything in Cargo is far less which is why it was set up!!!

Bonding and other matters such as Ground School, Air Law exam etc etc are still the same.

Make sure your log book is totally accurate as they go through it with a fine tooth comb.

I spoke to a Sincargo Captain in EWR last week. He had flown from Anchorage to Chicago, had minimum rest and then paxed to EWR to wait 4hours to catch the non-stop EWR-SIN fight back to Singapore. Thats about another 18 hours flight time! On top of all that he told me that they don't get flight pay for positioning unlike mainline who get half rates. Sounded like a pretty sh...y deal to me. In addition he mentioned that SIA are holding all new contracts until the new collective agreement has been signed because they are slashing most of the allowances. Be warned I say.
