mx2008,
I think no one here can tell you Yes or No, its depends on SIA, so cant do much on that, just like famale cadet issue, they never say male only but the fact is...

so good luck, hope they call you soon

Mates, yup....yup. Lorads is correct.

Keep the faith and do your best. You won't know the answer until you try. Most of my friends who tried, done it, made it and got in. Some of them are already flying.

Who knows, we may fly with each other one day!

Limpeh:

The 'O' levels requirements are by CAAS and not from SIA.

When I arrived at the interview, the first thing that the staff there asked for is my O level. They even ask whether is it in 1 sitting.

In the video that they shown during the interview ... there are quite a few foreign cadets. My guess ist that they do accept people from overseas other than malaysia.

Yup, SIA cadet program do have expats other than Singaporean, PR and malaysian now.. And most of them have hundreds of hours but without type rating on neither 747, 777, 320, etc etc... Hence, they're entered into the "cadet pilot" program, but on local terms... Some of whom came in on Feb this year, and had finished their learjet training, estimated to reach S/O by end of this year.
Ermm.. hope this piece of info is useful to aspiring expats without type rating but hoping to join SQ...

NOte to all aspiring cadet pilots to be out there: Do apply NOW if you meet the age requirement and minimum standard as spelled out in the website (AND if you are REALLY INTERESTED in wanting this to be your life-time job). If you have the 'try-try' attitude, don't waste time my friend. There's rumours of CAAS changing it's ATPL's syllabus, to JAR standard. Hence, I think SIA is trying to max all out the intakes now. Heard from a few applicants that they got their 1st interview in less than a month after sending in their applications. Which we had to wait for at least 3 to 6 months in the past.

TinyBrain,

does SIA accept expat ab initio cadets? I would like to apply but I have an EU passport (born in Malaysia but gave up my Malaysian citizenship). I've been racking my brains out to figure ways to get SG PR so that I can apply. I fulfill all the other requirements (O-levels, I have a masters degree etc...).

Also I'm 36, do you think I'm too old to apply? I expect this to be an issue during the interview but I could counter argue by saying I have professional experience in working in teams, dealing with people, I have the experience of living in Europe, I speak several languages, etc, something which could very well benefit SIA.

Is the change to JAR standard a change for the worse? How would this affect the cadet programme - longer, more difficult? I can only apply next year as I can't leave my job yet.

Thanks.

Hi Forza,

I chatted with Humble, and he went for the 1st interview on 6th July. He received the 2nd interview notification for next tuesday and wednesday. Thats all i know. Seems like they are recruiting alot these days. Or are they just trying to keep the available pool active?

Age Limit

Juicywatermelon,

I have helped the admin sort out the applicants for the interview process and can tell you that based on your qualifications, you will not be considered.

Cutoff is 32 years for ab-initio training. They wouldn't even turn your form to page 2 when the see you have exceeded the age.

Hello people,

forza1111, a 24.5 yr old went through and completed the medical, but he wasn't called up for the latest cadet program. My guess is either:

(1) age, or
(2) place available in latest course, or
(3) he has got he's commitments and can only join later

Point to note is that he did go for RSAF recruitment but didn't make the mark.

SQ007, there might not be a course in august. sept i'm not sure.

I also heard that next few courses is for SIA CARGO. If you really have the passion to fly, then thats not a problem lah.

Oh yeah... RMIT CPL is not recognised by SIA. You still have to go through cadet pilot program.

But of course you can apply for the career at SIA but i know of people with RMIT CPL who fail the interview process.

Lastly, WhiteOak... why you so stupid, pay $80 for eye test. stewpid la you.... stewwwwwpid...

Good Luck.

mingxing2008, i am not sure how long the wait is. i know of people who waited 1 year before the reply. He is now a silkair pilot.

My personal experience:
16th June - 1st Interview. 1 month after application
17th June - Results of 1st interview
21st June - Second Interview (Comp Test)
22nd June - Third Interview (Sit Test + Final Interview + Tea Party)
23rd June - Call up for results
24th June - Medical Check up
29th June - Results of check up + Offer

I know that there are people who waited 3 months to a year to get this done, but i think there is a need for pilots now, so the process took me 2 weeks!!

Don't ask me about the details of the tests. There are already many post on that in the internet so go look. I'm going OBS on the 22nd July, if you are going too, please drop me a PM.

forza1111, you will definately be quizzed on the aviation scene. Search the internet for the latest news and happenings, learn about the SIA fleet. www.answers.com is pretty good. search for things like boeing 777, boeing 747, airbus a340. know what planes sia fly. know how engines work. etc.

From the picture drawn by the interviews, they want somebody with a PASSION for the CAREER...not a job mind you.

If you have the passion for soccer, you would know who won the premireship. who is beckham playing for. where and when is the next world cup. who is the korean transferred to man u.

If you claim to have passion for flying...how can you not know how a aircraft generates lift?

Hi guys,
What Walt said is very true. In fact, if you love flying, you'd sure know some details about planes. I told them about twin otter.
Well, waited for 4 months before getting 1st interview. From then on, was quite fast similiar to walt's. But waited a bit longer to get EP approved. Good luck to all you guys
