G'day,
Been reading the forum and most of you guys here seem to be in the real neck of things back home.
I'm a rookie who's frankly....how do i put it, just about to reach criticle angle. You see guys, I'm a Malaysian who's been in Sydney for 3 years, and by the end of this week, will be sitting for my CIR and in another couple of weeks, my CPL. Following that will be 2 months of ATPL ground school. Having said that, come December that puts an end to my 3 year Aviation degree flying course with the University of New South Wales in Sydney Australia. THe flight training's designed towards JAR requirements, hence CIR, then come CPL.
Here's the problem, really, where do I go from here. guys? Would be great if I could get some good guidance (what would be the recommended choice/ best ways of applying/anything that will help)
Now, would it be best if I:
a) Try MAS cadet prog.
b) Air Asia
c) SIA cadets
d) Stick around in Australia flying 'bush'....most of my coursemates will be heading to Darwin/Kunnunara flying charter (Cessna 206's I've heard mostly) to get hours up.
e) suggestions please?
been burning lots of parent's hard earned blood and sweat, investing in the Degree in Aviation which comes with CIR, CPL and ATPL theory these years. Would like to get back, go out there and start a career.

My two sens worth. Get your CFI or QFI whilst you are there. In addition to gaining skills and getting paid to fly it will give you more options for work in this industry.
Next, take the 206 job if you can get it and start sending resume's back home. When you get your CFI you may want to consider going back to work in MY and keep building local time while networking. If you are qualified for the Cadet programme the by all means apply for it.
Don't burn any bridges and have a backup line of work or talent to get you through the turbulent times. You will make it.

My advise would be to come back at once and dont waste anymore time bush flying. There are airline jobs available currently, but for how long?, well thats anyones guess.
Air Asia is recruiting and no problem for a malaysian with a licence to get in.
MAS is recruiting, direct entry, if u have the calibere and the qualifications, then its better than AA.
SQ is a lot more difficult to get in.
So why spend more of your parents money and just come back as soon as ure finnished. Come fly the jets.

From your friendly neighbour down south, I would suggest you don't put all your eggs in one basket, apply to all...MAS, AA, Transmile, Bejaya Air etc. What have you to lose? The most is a rejection letter. I have almost the same background as you so I've been there and got the t-shirt.

Going into alil' more detail, what do you guys think:
Should people like me just rock up to interviews back home with our Australian issued CPL+CIR and ATPL theory OR actually go the extra mile and do Australian to Malaysian conversions???

Since you're Malaysian, Check with DCA whether the Flying School u attended is within the list of Audited and Aprroved School by DCA for your conversion. Get back here.Operators like AAsia are definitely recruiting.Give MH a shot as shortage of FO is a bit grave.Good Luck. By the way u still need to sit for the MAlaysian ATPL if I am not mistaken but then you're fresh from FLT School with lots of momentum.

If you write Air Asia now, you will probably have a job offer before returning to Malaysia, they simply cannot get enough people. At risk of offending someone, I don't beleave there will be room for ex pats (regardless of what you hear), but they WILL snap you up very quick...... Good Luck !

As MFA is the only professional school contact them. Maybe you can join MAS or Air Asia , it will depends on your records.
In any case MFA can help you for your conversion. For the moment, the job market is brilliant for a malaysian citizen here.
