Hi cad123, If I understood correctly, only 2 guarantors are required on SIA's side. The bank may have other requirements depending on which bank you take the loan from.

As for the "bank guarantee", I think that only applies to expatiate pilots but not sure if it applies to expatiate cadet pilots under training.

However, I could be totally wrong and would appreciate if someone could help verify this.

Well according to some cadets in training, SIA's rumoured to be reducing their cadet intake next year from around 350 to 250. Not surprising given the economic situation now. There are even talks of retrenchment as a last resort.

Time to take out some wet weather gear as it's the 'wet season' and everything is looking grey. SIA's mainline and cargo with excess pilots, HR asking cargo pilots to take no pay leave, halting hiring cadets from India (Malaysia?), reducing the number of cadet intakes and the generally bad shape of the aviation industry, things are starting to look really grim. Open any aviation publication and you keep reading about another airline biting the dust.

Not a great time to be on the cadet pilot-to-be list but sure beats not being on the list at all.

However, if cadets start training during the slump period, the industry should be in an upwards trend as most of the cadets pass out to be FOs. There should be a demand for more pilots as they take delivery of the A380s and B787s to expand their fleet size (hopefully the senior captains retire early!).
As the song goes, "I don't practice Santeria and I ain't got no crystal ball", but one thing I know for sure is that sunshine always follows the rain.

SIA did not promise u all anything!!! And say SIA let u down? In what ways does SIA let u down? by not offering u an interview? In what ways do you think SIA owes u anything? bear in mind that SIA is not Indian owned and in no way owes u a living!

Lets face it, the fact that SIA does go to India to recruit cadets is they can't find enough Singaporeans or Malaysians to fly for them. Now that its a downturn that affects everybody, not just Indian cadets are affected, even Singaporeans and Malaysians are! This is a Singapore national airline, and like any other airlines in Asia, preferences for cadetship will always be for their own nationals.

If Jet airways withdraws on their recruitment, they also have every right to cos they are not obligated to you so called wannabes who may not even know how to drive!

I am so amused by you Indian wannabes here. Full of speculation since the recruitment process started and blame SIA for not giving u any interviews. Why don't you blame your own Indian Airlines for such mismanagement that they are in such financial difficulties that they cannot afford to train cadets anymore?

I am so glad that I know I wont be flying with you, by blaming SIA for not keeping their promise which they didnt promise in the first place!

They had come down to India in 2005, Conducted interviews and vanished after promising offers (for those of you who do not know....)

I guess you would be the happiest to know that SIA won't be recruiting from India...

I don't think it is fair to slam the entire country just because a few people have strong opinions about your statements. I am Singaporean and I sympathize with your pain, anger and disappointment "caused" by SIA. However, please understand that SIA is an airline that is a profit orientated organization. First and foremost, they have to look after their shareholders interest, needs and concerns.

Only then do the rest of us pawns, if lucky, get some attention and maybe some "love". Just like Kingfisher, BA, Delta and any other successful airline, the balance sheet MUST be looked after before the people. There is nothing wrong with that and that's just how things are with running an airline at this point in time, with the bad economy and all the other mitigating factors.If fact, that's how things have always been. :ok:

I had to stop working, forsake my small startup business because I too was hoping that I could pursue my dreams to fly with SIA. It was my fault that I didn't plan well and falsely believed that SIA will call me up in a few months to start my cadet pilot training, and guess what? It's almost coming to 11 months now and I have yet to sign the contract (there are a few factors that has caused so much delay but it is out of the context of this post/thread to discuss). In fact I am still waiting for my medical results.

In that 11mths I have gone through financial hardships, family issues, lost my advance placing (direct to 3rd year) in college for my degree, almost burnt my business to the ground and allowed my relationship with the people who cared about me to go stale and even sour. All because I too believed that SIA "promised" something. However, the truth is...

THEY DIDN'T promise anything. PERIOD!


We only have ourselves to blame and you know what?:confused:

Grow up and concentrate on the next step to achieve yours dreams. Stop wasting time sowing discord.

Kudos do your good spirits.!I have to agree with you entirely on the hardships of today's life. There's nothing like free lunch. I personally never stereotype anybody because the bottom line.... NO PAIN...NO GAIN!!! And I also have learnt to keep my options open. So even while chasing dreams, one has to be cautious because from experiences on-one would want ONLY PAIN & NO GAIN.

What makes u resign from previous job? I mean, not just for SIA, but any other job, its never a good thing to resign without an offer, plus in aviation, you have more stringent medical to clear.

my suggestion is, dun bank on SIA offering you something, i have known a wannabe, who did not make it in air force but very keen to join SIA and make it thru all the interviews and tests, and guess what, he never got an offer after 2 years.

i have a question. do pilots( graduated from SFC) earn the same amount of base pay regardless of educational qualifications? i do know that cadets get paid on different scales depending on their qualifications, i'm just not sure if the same applies to those flying the biggies already.

Once a cadet pilot has attained his CPL/IR (ie. completion of training in Jandakot), he'll be on the same payscale as everyone else from then on, so long as they are on the same fleet on the biggies regardless of academic qualifications.
