What is KA's "MPL" Cadet Program?
Hey Guys, Just noticed the "MPL" Cadet Pilot Program "Multi Crew Pilots Licence" today on Dragon Airs website. I've read it over a few times and still not able to tell what the difference is. The normal Cadet program is a 60 week Adelaide but the Cadet "MPL" program is a 52 week in Melbourne.
What is the difference between the normal cadet program and this MPL program??

A MPL only involves around 70 hours of flying in an aircraft, and the rest in approved flight training device, or full flight simulators.
The type rating and instrument rating is part of the MPL process, and the MPL also needs a post course professional development. Once the necessary experience is achieved as a co-pilot, the MPL can be converted to a PPL/CPL/ATPL.
The syllabus for a MPL is more in line with the requirements for a co-pilot on a transport category aircraft flying instrument procedures, where a CPL is aimed at a single engine VFR entry level piston job.
Cost wise, Lufthansa are finding the MPL process more expensive than the CPL/IR route, however the pilots at the end are better suited to their new role.

You get a lot more simulator work on the type you will be flying online. As far as I am aware, HK CAD have set the highest bar for any MPL program in the world, their requirement is over 320 hours of training (both in an aircraft and simulator), the ICAO minimum is 220 hours, 70 hours in aircraft.
This is a lot more training than cadets were getting previously, and the MPL program is geared towards multi crew airline flying in a jet flying IFR, where the CPL route is a VFR general aviation single pilot qualification.

@Nebgonf:
I think so! The LFT (Lufthansa Flight Training) replaced their fATPL training for the MPL, this works very well, although, for them. The course is now more directed to the teamwork in the cockpit and flying automatised jets. So the flight training is now more based to the real working. This works very nice for Lufthansa, and I think that it will be working very well for KA too..

hmm....i do agree with training the cadets up for the real deal in their future roles, however....I having reserve in regards to learning how to fly the computer without gaining some sort of general aviation experience, or am I just being too basic and living in the 70's??
What im trying to say is that, wouldn't it be better if they combine the pre-qualify cadet and the MPL?? Hiring those without frozen ATPL, because in some countries, you cannot get ATPL theory until you earn enough hours anyway right?

@Kenny, I'm in your side, that's for sure. So you will not stand alone =]
It is the choise of the company right? It's their money to spend on their cadets.. We don't have the choise.. We will allways be f*cked up

Hi guys/girls
I finished my AT on 5/5 and I got an email from KA today, they saying due to the number of applicants, they want to transfer my application for either MPL or DA15.
But since KA's MPL program is the first for them, would you suggest I take it or not? usually it'd take a while for them to run things and amend it.
From what I understand, the MPL does seem like an accelerated program and it looks like it's more suited for the the "real-world" as opposed to the normal CPP.
But my concern is what will this MPL give me? another brother/sister above said MPL is convertable to a PPL/CPL/ATPL. but i've also read elsewhere that all you get from this program is the MPL, and it goes on to say i cannot fly alone, meaning if my flying partner is incapacitated, i'm illegal to fly?
Career path wise, does it offer a slightly different career path?

According to the agreement between Oxford Aviation Academy and Dragonair, they are going to offer 10 vacancies in MPL for applicats this year.
I think that both MPL and DA 15 can also help you dream come true . Even though their training pathways are different, both of them also help you to be a pilot.
From the past experience, each DA recruitment offers 30 vacancies, but only 12-13 applicants are successful to go to Adelaida each time. As MPL is the first time for the Dragonair,it is therefore you can imagine only few successful applicants 3-5 able to join the programme.

From an inside source: they require at least 6 in the MPL program.
1. they need even numbers because it is a partner exercise.
2. they require more than 4 because they need statistics to determine the success of the MPL program.
Cheers,
MrJ

MPL Program:
Based in Melbourne. Groundschool will be done in Oxford academy in Hong Kong.
MPL License is given by the company -> No chance to join other airline industry.
It's always safe option to try new programs because with most companies, they tend to inject money into the program hoping it will work out. Cush =3

Re: MrCrawford
Can i assume what you said is true until we get the magical 1500?
suppose once i get the ATPL unfrozen, i shud be free to join other airliners.. right?
and i have heard that MPL can be convertible back to a CPL/IR once u top up some more solo hours.

Not sure about the atpl 1500. Assuming you can convert it to CPL, etc, you wouldnt' have the time to convert while on the job. You will be flying airbuses and not multi pistons.

Thanks MrCrawford
I think you must consider whether you are ready to take the selection test or not.
Why do you fail the initial test?
If you think you have prepared it properly, go ahead !
But, if you think you can't make an improvement in a short time, the DA may be more suitable.
Since, if you fail the MPL selection again, that means you waste your 2nd chance.
It is a really bad impression for the company, if you apply the cadet pilot a year later.

I am only a small potato of HR.
But I know if you have reason, you can change your choice.
You must have a reasonable excuse, such as university select you to have exchange programme in the summer holiday. Or, You are going to work in the oversea countries next month.
But, you must consider it deeply before action. It is not good, if you always change your decision.
