2000+ hours is what Ive been told by my peers who have gotten interviews. They were around 2200hrs with 800hrs multi turbine PIC time. If your cessna time is instructing, I dont think it will do you much good.

Best of luck!

So it's fair to say if I accumulate 800ish hours solo PIC and another 1200-1400 hours instructing, I'd get a good shot at the SO interview?

thanks

I was recently at an SO interview in HKG, lowest hours was 1700 I think, most had 2500+ and one had jet time. All had turboprop PIC or Jet SIC. I think the 3000 hour unofficial requirement has dropped slightly. Worth a try even if it is just to show an interest as that is important for when you do have the experience they want.

Applying for DEFO and SO?

If I recall, SOs fly the sim at their interview in HKG just as DEFO candidates are required. If you meet the mins for DEFO, and you check the box for DEFO and SO on your application...how are they determining whether you get a DEFO offer or an SO offer? If you meet a certain score, you get a DEFO offer? If you're below said score but above the minimum score for SO, then you're offered an SO position?

Other thoughts or ideas as to how this works out?

I had a good friend that went to HK to interview as a DEFO, and was offered SO.

If you tick both the DEFO and SO box on the application, they will specify when they call you for interview which position its for. Regarding the sim, the checks are fairly simular, what I've heard is that for DEFO you get very steep turns - 60 degrees bank with stick shaker and they fail an engine downwind after your first approach.
For more info on the sim do a search, the whole profile is here on prune.

can one be overqualified for so?!

hey all, does anyone out there know if you can be overqualified?
i would prefer applying for so option as i am told if you apply and get defo then no housing subsidy?
sitting on about 4500 hrs of which 500 is heavy jet and have been told i might be preferred for defo, but simply dont think i could afford to live in hk with wife and kids and no housing allowance, from what i hear its steep!

Fly high, definitely those types: ATR/Fokker, probably more like 2500hrs from what I hear lately from friends there.

Anyone knows if simulator hours spent on a type rating are also taking into account.

Thanks,

minimums are 1000 hours but the guys that are applying for the job have 2000+ hours, some with jet time, some with turboprop PIC time. instructing on a 172 im afraid is not going to cut it.

I reckon that a 21 year old with ATPL, 600 PIC on a piston,
700 PIC on a turboprop would be quite competitive.

But, that's just my opinion

I've got 1500 TT 1000 PIC in a Caravan. Less than 100 multi. With current hiring trends at CX, any chance for SO interview?

Also wondering if the SO interview is the same as the DEFO interview. All the gouges I have read have been from pilots applying for DEFO.

Thanks!

Dunno if anyone can say with any certainty that they are the same, since no one has done both.

But as far as I can tell the SO and FO interviews appear to be the same.
