When do you go from FO to SFO, is that year 5 or experience related?

You know depending from where or how you look at it, that is still a load of money!!

Some people will kill to get that!!

So maybe we you should just lower you living standards (just a tad) and you will be able to drink more beer or whatever you would like to do with more cash in your pocket!!

You are very naive.....If you enjoy low pay go fly for Mesa. Don't come here. We don't need your type of ilk.

Katters,

You know nothing of my love of aviation. I would surmise that I have more time checking the oil on my aircraft then you have in the air.
My point is that if you are going to engage in a profession. You should strive to make as much money doing it as you can. That should be a required mantra of every pilot who calls themselves a pro. Do you think a CEO approaches a companies board and suggests that they will run the company for less salary then the previous CEO? The answer is a resounding "NO".
If you like airplanes then buy one. Otherwise leave the big jet handling to those who know how much the job is worth.
It's time to stop discounting our services.

Dropknee, what a true statement. I can't stand it anymore when "fellow aviators" are breathing in our necks to do the job for half price.
And please stop using that "Paris Hilton Blackberry" English. CX won't even look at your cv when you write like that. (but then again, maybe they will if you tell them you will work for half price)

Nice post Katters!

U are either not a pilot who loves flying or u forgot whats it like to fly man (sic(ouch))
How much 'flying' do you think that you'll do in a long-haul airline?

Katters, I'm sure there is something called the missionary air service (or something similar). You can join them, do hundreds of hours of very interesting flying into some extremely dangerous areas and have the added pleasure of not getting paid for it. Perhaps the might be more your thing?

Or perhaps I'm falling for a 3rd floor Troll... But i don't think anyone on the 3rd floor could bring themselves to misspell 'and'.

Katters you are an idiot!! People go to CX , BA and other big airlines cause they worked hard to get to the top. Not to get screwed cause some 200 hour comm pilot wanna do it for less.....

( Sorry mate I don't usually lose my cool but its time some clowns around here grow up and that includes you )

Ok OK No use in trying to fight among ourselves i agree with what you are saying (except Kane Toad who raps me on the knuckles for misspelling 'and' and then misspells 'that' (or something)....hahaha)

However its still not going to stop new pilots from joinng CX, because even though the money is not good for the guy who has been at the company fro more than 4 years, its still WAY better than flying in some long forgotten village doing air drops to people who like to catch the 3ton pallets!

No change to HK payscales (apart from our 3% pay rise in Jan). All SOs come to Hong Kong so will still be on CoS99.

My understanding is that any new SO joining on COS 08 will be on the lower unified FO pay scale if they elect to take a base in their first 4 years as a FO.

No problem

This won't be an issue - you'll have eff all chance of getting a basing in Oz if you join as an SO now anyway.

Due to a combination of:
1. DEFO recruits filling slots
2. Current senior HK FOs scrambling to get the few slots still available in the next few years
3. Based Captain extendees (RA 65), AND
4. FOs already in situ knocking back command course to remain in Oz

All of this will almost certainly mean there is NO chance of ever being based back home for Aussies joining as SOs now. Commuting isn't really an option as an SO due exchange rate right now and as an FO in HK your roster will pretty much preclude it too.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but them's the facts.

just to be sure: with the 08 contract, as an SO, do you still get the housing allowance or not?
