Are u happy at CX????
Just wondering how current pilots feel about being at CX. I work at a US commuter and was thinking of coming over. Any comments would help, but basically just wondering if you like working for CX.

Lifestyle, pay, and salary are a lot better than down on the rock. The flying is not as fun though!!
P.S. I really don't suggest backing up an ATR to maximize usable runway at SLU!!

I take it you have been to the "Pirates of the caribbean flight school".
Anyways, I like it down here. Thats why I wanna make sure Im doing the right thing by leaving. The pay and equipment are obviously better at CX. Just wondering if the quality of life is better. The commuting thing without cass has me a little worried. I know its a personal decision only I can make but I just wanted to get some input.

No way man, I wouldnt do the commute to HK.(Im crazy but not that crazy), I was thinking about to the first three years on the frieghter fleet to JFK. The no CASS thing has me worried. But everyone says that people just buy tons of ID90s or OneWorld passes. Doesnt sound like fun.
I think Id like HK. Every city has its good points and bad, but over all everybody I know in HK say they like it.

I don't know what it is with the whole jumpseating/CASS thing.
It is no secret that the only place that has this kind of benefit is here in the US.
It's a very nice benefit, granted, but that is all, a benefit, not the norm.

Unfortunately, CXregret exists for one reason and one reason only on this site, and that's to denigrate his employer in the strongest terms possible. Why he remains is indeed the mystery.

I am quite happy here.
It isn't for everybody. Be ready for some things to be different than at your previous employer.
If you are ready for a bit of change in your life and like new things, it is a good place to be.
Can't be beat for days off.

As far as HK. Very nice place to be. air is dirtier than NYC but the rest of it is a lot cleaner :-)

it definately worth worth to give it a try and my opinions are as follow:
Pos.
1. CX is one of the airlines in the world that has an extremely strong financial background that lead to a stable working environment.
2. Equipment is state of the art equipment with liable maintenance.
3. Pay is not the best but is “higher than average” although it is a bit “tight” for your 1st year as S/O, but after that, when you are quality for the full housing allowance, it’s enough for you to live in a “upper” level condo or apartment. As I am a local on a local contract, I don’t have any housing allowance and I still can live in a “middle –upper” class lifestyle.
4. Upgrade from S/O to JFO is approximately 3.5 years at current speed and is getting faster. Approximately 6 months to qualify as a F/O and depends on the seniority and your own performance, approximately 10 - 11years (+/-) at current speed from S/O to CAPT
5. Benefit is not bad, school allowance for children (fair amount), housing, medical, dental, FOC + ID 90, retirement scheme and current retirement age at 55 and I can see the age will delay to 60 or even 65 in the future.
6. Low tax rate in HKG.
7. Roster is fair and you have the option to request your roster style.

First of all, thanks to everyone who replied.
Its not easy to make a life changing decision like this. I dont know too many people at CX, and I wanted to make sure I was making the correct move. I know that there isnt the perfect airline out there, and the old phrase" the grass is always greener on the other side" holds true. Bottom line though, I dont mind the grass being greener on the otherside, as long as Im content with the grass on my side. I guess now it up to CX if they want me over there. Wish me luck, I interview this month...... Got to get back to studying.
